Q&A Q&A IMPEY Chris Kingaby Impey: ‘We Are Wetrooms’

Matt Broughton spoke to Chris Kingaby, Product and Marketing Director at Coram UK, about Impey’s 2023 results and the year ahead.

Matt: Could you give us a brief summary of how 2023 was for Impey? Chris: From product launches to industry events, the whole team had an incredibly busy year and we proudly celebrated some incredible achievements. Highlights included the introduction of our large size Aqua-Dec Linear floor formers which have be designed to enable the creation of expansive, accessible wetroom spaces; the creation of our new retail sales tool showcasing new drain top colour options including the introduction of our swatch booklet to showcase the new Allure colours in brushed and polished finish; and seeing popularity with our innovative Tiled Insert for our Aqua-Dec EasyFit.

We were delighted with our hugely successful return to the Installer show, where we rolled-out our sustainable stand (made in-house by team at Bridgnorth), which provided hands-on training areas and enabled us to showcase layers of a wetroom, as well as our ever-popular product range. We have also been busy investing in our state- of-the-art UK manufacturing site which has enabled us to increase our production of wetroom decs on the press, to accommodate high demand.

Matt: Were there any key changes in trends and tastes you had to address in 2023? Chris: We continued to focus on the growth of the market for luxury, accessible walk-in shower spaces. The strategic introduction of new sizes of our Aqua-Dec Linear to provide bigger wetroom spaces with a linear aesthetic was pivotal to address high demand in the sector for accessible solutions. We continued to build strong relationships with our retailer network, providing a full service portfolio, to help them establish a strong focus on high quality wetroom installations, paired with our Sealskin duka glass options and our Geesa contemporary bathroom accessories.

We also prepared to introduce our luxury range of healthcare showering solutions into the retail sector, which we will share more about throughout 2024.

Matt: What is your first point of focus for 2024? Chris: We are very excited to bring our brand new Aqua-Dec Linear 1 to market. This new expansion in product choice will lead to an organic increase of production within our UK manufacturing site. To ensure we have capacity to expand in this area we have made significant investment in operations, and the development of the team.

We will continue our mission to educate the market on all areas of wetroom specification and installation, with another ‘We Are Wetrooms’ Online training schedule in place and plans for bigger events too; so watch this space!

Matt: Can you give us some details regarding your new range of linear decs coming early 2024? Chris: The introduction of our Aqua-Dec Linear 1 will complete our linear offering, showcasing clean lines and signature Impey quality with a one-way fall linear floor former. Its seamless contemporary design will lend ideally to large format tiles and luxury bathrooms, as well as offering increased options for accessibility.

With a single gradient to direct water to the drainage point, it offers a stylish, minimalist aesthetic, adaptable for contemporary wetroom designs, available in three size options. The 800mm drain is positioned next to and in-line with the wall for an ultra-modern appearance. And the single gradient ensures that the Linear 1 is quick and simple to tile.

The Linear 1 will solidify the Impey floor former portfolio as the largest on the UK market; meaning that we now offer 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-way floor formers, a milestone that we are hugely proud of.
