Fespa achieves ISO sustainability certification

Fespa has achieved ISO 20121:2012 certification for sustainable event management having implemented policies and procedures to address key, measurable objectives. Fespa has also measured its carbon footprint at its UK-based headquarters for three consecutive years and is installing solar panels.

The following commitments form the basis of

Fespa’s sustainability objectives, as well as targets for events within the scope of the ISO certification: Planning: recognising that sustainability must

play a key part in the process and should be considered throughout the decision-making activities in the event management cycle. Environmental: seeking to prevent negative impacts such as pollution by giving purchasing preference to products and services that have sound sustainable credentials, as well as implementing reduce, reuse, recycle. Transportation: reducing, wherever possible, the need for transportation (of sourced products) or seeking to reduce the length of the journey. Packaging: committing to the reduction of packaging wherever possible, seeking to use reusable or recycled packaging where it is required.

Product criteria: researching the origins and manufacturing processes of key products to identify any process, ingredient or part which has a negative environmental impact, in order to assess the necessity, find an alternative and ensure that it can be disposed of within sustainability guidelines.

Purchasing criteria: committing to responsible, sustainable procurement practices. Social: only collaborating with companies that

share Fespa’s values in regard to the treatment of their workforce. Also, considering the local community in relation to events. Energy: committing to improving energy use, consumption and efficiency and, whenever possible, using energy from renewable sources. Hazardous products: avoiding the use of hazardous products wherever possible. Where this is unavoidable, following the guidelines laid out in the UK COSHH regulations and ensuring that use of hazardous products is monitored and used within a controlled environment. Occupational health and safety: taking a responsible attitude to all aspects of occupational health and safety.

Compass Business Finance extends its SME support package

Compass Business Finance has confirmed that it has been accredited to deliver funding supported by the government-backed Growth Guarantee Scheme (GGS), via the British Business Bank to create further access to finance for UK smaller businesses to invest and grow. Launched as a successor to the Recovery Loan Scheme, a new development is the addition of asset-based lending (ABL) and invoice finance to the range of supported facilities.

The Growth Guarantee Scheme enables lenders

to provide finance where they may not otherwise have done so, or to extend better-than-standard

terms on business financing options. The products under the scheme that can be offered by Compass include: term loans of £25,001 to £2m for business groups, across terms of up to six years; asset finance for investments in new and used machinery or other assets, where the finance is secured primarily against the asset itself; asset-based lending, comprised of two or more types of finance being knitted together to achieve the overall funding package required; and invoice finance, that enables applicants to access 85%-90% of the value of their unpaid invoices the moment they are raised.

Linney takes world’s first HS Series printer

UK-based Linney has become the first company in the world to order a single-pass inkjet HS Series printer, developed in partnership by Fujifilm and Barberán. The HS Series, aimed at display graphics market, combining Barberán’s engineering and Fujifilm’s ink chemistry and inkjet technology, to deliver print speeds of over 6,000m2

/hr with high quality

output. Each press tailormade and configured to the requirements of the business in which it is to be used. Linney, founded in 1851, is a full-service creative

marketing agency, with more than 1,200 staff, offering clients a full spectrum of digital services, alongside print production. Charles Linney, a company director and the sixth generation of the Linney family working in the firm, said: “It’s so important for the business to

keep on top of the changing technologies available in the industry, and something we watch carefully. Back in 2009 we were one of the very first adopters of the Inca Onset range – and our relationship with Fujifilm which began back then has been very important to us ever since. “We strongly feel that the time for single-pass inkjet is here - we wanted something with reliability, speed, quality and excellent up-time in equal measure. On all of these measures, the HS Series has hugely impressed us. It’s five to ten times faster than the previous technology, the quality is fantastic, and our operators have been mightily impressed. The HS series really does feel like a huge step forward and will help us cater for the ever- increasing speed to market that our clients need.”
