PHAM NEWS | DECEMBER/JANUARY 2025 38 Underfl oorHeating

Installing a self-

balancing actuator

With advances in underfl oor heating technology, it’s crucial to stay updated on products that incorporate AI to ease installation, improve reliability and enhance user comfort. Here, Ambiente provides a step-by-step to fi tting the AmbiEgo – an intelligent self-balancing actuator head, benefi cial to any UHF system.

T

hese intelligent, precision- engineered devices are ideal for use with multiple loops to control diff erent heating zones. They use AI to provide the room

with just the fl ow it needs at the right time. It achieves this by self-learning the characteristics of the room and how it responds to its demand for heat by measuring the fl ow and return temperature and rate of change over a period of time. This reduces the need for a system design as they accurately control the fl ow of water through the underfl oor heating system to ensure precise temperature regulation and effi cient heat distribution. This not only enhances homeowner comfort but also contributes to energy savings. This ‘hero’ product is suitable for

scenarios where the consumer is experiencing cold patches within the fl oor, especially when working with and solving balancing issues when working with an old system without prior knowledge of the installed loop lengths. There could be a few reasons for the cold

spots, some of which can be remedied with system balancing and additional technology, and others can’t be solved easily post- installation. But going with the worst-case scenario fi rst, if there is no underfl oor heating pipe installed within that area of the room, unfortunately, there isn’t a simple retrofi t solution to improve this, other than opening up the fl oor and extending the pipework into that zone. Simply install a self- balancing actuator and allow it to take away any guesswork and fi nd the ideal balance. On the other hand, if the system is old and

unknown, the only way to deal with this is to use a self-balancing manifold actuator to dynamically balance each loop individually using its own fl ow and return pipe sensors. This is also a valuable addition to any system where response times are slower than the homeowner would like. The following tutorial explains how to

install the Ambiente AmbiEgo actuator. AmbiEgo can be fi tted to any underfl oor heating system, whether Ambiente-branded or not, making it a ‘must-have’ for installers and service engineers keen to resolve issues once and for all. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/125/32

Tilt the manifold bars forwards to make room for the AmbiEgo.

5 Fully open the fl ow meter. 3 Remove the actuator valve cap. 4 1 2

Manually open the AmbiEgo using the orange lever. 6

Fix the AmbiEgo on the Actuator valve and then close the manual lever.

7

Fix the manifold clips onto the fl ow and return pipes – red to fl ow and blue to return.

8

Wire up the AmbiEgo to the wiring centre.

The AmbiEgo installation is complete and the product can be added to further loops if required.
