How to become a wetroom expert
For installers wanting to master wetroom installation skills, Impey off ers a free and accessible course delivered online. Heading into its 10th year, the ‘We Are Wetrooms’ training programme consists of a two-hour virtual session held once a month on Friday mornings from 9 to 11am. Every training session is free to attend and combines pre- recorded installation videos with live Q&A opportunities. Led by Impey’s technical and
trade marketing manager, Shaun Hunt, the training aims to reach those working in the healthcare and luxury wetroom markets. The curriculum covers essential topics such as installation techniques for both wooden and concrete fl oors, achieving proper gradients, drainage methods (including gravity-fed and pumped), and ensuring leak-free waterproofi ng. Participants will learn how to
eff ectively apply Impey’s solutions to create the ideal wetroom. The course covers all of the company’s wetroom off erings, including the award-winning Aqua-Dec EasyFit and Aqua-Dec Linear fl oor

formers. Attendees will gain a solid understanding of how to install the WaterGuard tanking solution, along with the Aqua-Grade and Aqua- Grade Linear screed templates for new concrete fl oors. Additionally, they will see how the company’s rotating drain plate can be adjusted to navigate around joists, pipework, and other obstructions, potentially saving hours on installation time. Impey also provides ongoing
support to trainees through its 60 Second Solutions video series on YouTube. Presented in this quick and focused format, there are now 44 videos off ering top tips, installation advice and demonstrations of the innovation

within the products – all in less than one minute. “Installing wetrooms can be
daunting, and these sessions are designed to take away those worries,” says Shaun Hunt. “We provide the right products and comprehensive training to ensure that installers can get it right. We focus on the essential aspects of wetroom installation, revealing the ‘guts’ of the system and what lies beneath. By being honest about potential pitfalls and showing the bare bones of the installation process, we empower them to work confi dently and eff ectively.” ◼

Following the success of its original Heat Pump Pass training, Stiebel Eltron is now off ering the updated module Heat Pump Pass 2, aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of installers in renewable heating technologies. It is designed for heating engineers transitioning from boiler installation to heat pumps, as well as trainee and existing heat pump engineers looking to expand their understanding of low carbon technologies and Stiebel Eltron’s products. Heat Pump Pass 2 includes fi ve hours of on-demand video training
divided into 26 segments, which cover essential topics such as how heat pumps operate, technical concepts, and initial installation considerations. The updated module adds two additional hours of training over 11 segments, focusing on critical areas such as heat loss calculations, product selection, and system sizing using advanced tools and calculators. Stiebel Eltron has also introduced in-person training for gas installers
transitioning to heat pump technology, off ering valuable hands-on experience with low carbon systems. ◼

Understanding ventilation strategies
Approved by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), the Ventilation for Education and Commercial Buildings course from Breathing Buildings is a one-hour session aimed at enhancing understanding of the ventilation strategies applicable to educational and commercial settings. Participants will learn about the
principles of natural ventilation, mixing ventilation, and the latest hybrid technologies. The course
Installers can take advantage of a series of training courses off ered by GTEC to gain the skills and knowledge they need to work with renewable energy systems, including heat pumps. Each course combines practical training with theoretical instruction, covering industry regulations, health and safety, and best practices. The Air Source Heat Pump Installation Course lasts three days and is
aimed at experienced heating installers looking to expand their skills in the installation and maintenance of heat pumps for domestic and small commercial settings. Participants will be able to engage in practical training on purpose-built ASHP rigs. At the end of the course, candidates will complete a practical assignment and a theory assessment. There is also a two-day Ground Source Heat Pump Installation Course that includes practical training on GSHP rigs and live equipment. For a foundational overview of renewable technologies and their
applications, installers can opt for the Introduction to Renewables course. Training takes place in the classroom and includes case studies that demonstrate the benefi ts and drawbacks of specifi c systems and their application. “I think it’s fair to say that 2024 has been the best year for heat pumps
to date,” says GTEC MD Griff Thomas. “If you haven’t upskilled into heat pumps, make it a priority for 2025.” ◼

Funding for training on heat networks
A funding opportunity is available for installers looking to diversify into the heat networks sector through fully funded training courses. The fi rst course off ered is
the Heat Networks Foundation Course, which is valued at £150 and fully funded, although a £30 refundable deposit is required. Suitable for both technical and non-technical professionals in the industry, it covers essential topics such as the basic principles of heat networks, diversifi ed loads, and the signifi cance of water treatment.
will cover essential topics such as current building regulations, ventilation strategies, and practical examples of natural ventilation applications. It is particularly relevant as CIBSE has introduced a requirement for members to engage in CPDs related to sustainability and safety. The course highlights the
importance of energy effi ciency and indoor air quality (IAQ) in building design, emphasising how eff ective ventilation can
help reduce carbon emissions and improve occupant comfort. The training is designed for construction professionals looking to deepen their knowledge of ventilation systems to meet modern regulatory and environmental standards. To book Breathing Buildings’
CIBSE-approved CPD with one of its experienced ventilation experts, email info@breathingbuildings. com. Find out more by using the online reader link below. ◼
