Domestic Ventilation Product of the Year Winner: Airflow Developments – Adroit MVHR range
At the core of the Adroit’s functionality is its ability to recover up to 93% of heat from extracted air through a highly efficient conduction process. Energy-rich extracted air passes over heat exchanger plates, warming the incoming supply air while keeping the air streams separate to prevent cross-contamination. This ensures that stale air does not mix with fresh air, greatly enhancing indoor air quality and reducing energy loss. The system’s performance is capable of ventilating up to 258 litres/sec with an exceptionally low operational noise level of just 35dB(A), making it barely
noticeable even during daily use. By effectively reusing heat, the Adroit system significantly reduces the workload on conventional heating systems, leading to lower household energy bills and a minimised carbon footprint. One of the standout features
of the Adroit system is its smart frost protection, allowing it to operate reliably even in extremely cold weather conditions. The system bypasses the heat exchanger during defrosting, using an optional heater to warm the incoming air without wasting energy. This ensures that 100% of the heater’s energy is
effectively utilised, maximising performance while reducing power consumption. The Adroit MVHR units also feature an intelligent automatic control system with four user operating profiles, easily adjustable via a digital controller, manual switch, or remotely through the Adroit Cloud. This flexibility allows homeowners to customise their ventilation according to specific needs, ensuring energy is used efficiently. Integral sensors for CO2 and humidity enable demand- controlled ventilation, boosting airflow only when necessary and further reducing energy consumption.
Energy Saving Influencer of the Year Winner:
Sponsored by Mark Wakeford
As chairman of EvoEnergy, the Solar Taskforce and the National Federation of Builders, Mark Wakeford has been a driving force in promoting energy-saving initiatives across the UK. With over 30 years of experience in senior leadership roles, Mark’s influence in the renewable energy and construction sectors is considerable. A Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, he is deeply committed to reducing the built environment’s carbon footprint. Mark’s impact is far- reaching, from publishing the first construction industry guide on carbon reduction in 2019 to overseeing its second edition in 2020.
His work on the Solar Taskforce, a key government- industry partnership, has been instrumental in shaping the UK’s
solar energy future, aiming for 70GW by 2035. Mark regularly speaks at
conferences, such as the Climate Crisis Theme Group’s events and the ‘Currency of Carbon’ conference, advocating for sustainability best practices.
Judge’s comment: “It combines exceptional energy recovery with innovative design, making it a game- changer for sustainable living.”
Special Recognition Award Andrew Warren
A long-standing columnist for our sister publication, Energy in Buildings & Industry, Andrew Warren has also written regular columns for numerous newpapers and magazines, all on the subject of energy saving. Previously the founder director and then the honorary president of the Association for the Conservation of Energy (ACE), Andrew has been an influential voice in the development of energy policy for many UK government administrations. He was also appointed as a special advisor to the House of Commons environment select committee. Widely acknowledged as
Beyond his advocacy, Mark’s leadership is evident in his role as a net zero Champion for the Construction Leadership Council and his involvement in projects like Birmingham Airport’s carbon reduction initiatives. Mark is a true champion of training and development within the solar sector and has demonstrated this, not only through industry and government working groups, but also in his dedication to the development of careers fairs for
school leavers, in partnership with local colleges; specialist training programs in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions; and in the development of apprenticeships, bootcamps and director training courses. Mark’s influence extends to social media, with over 8,000 LinkedIn connections and a growing presence in the podcasting world, where he discusses sustainability and carbon accounting.
an expert on energy and environmental issues, Andrew was instrumental in creating the sister body to ACE, EUROACE, and was involved in the creation of several key European directives concerning energy efficiency. He chaired the international working party that led to the original Energy Performance of Buildings directive, which in turn led to the creation of energy performance certificates, minimum energy standards for rental and leased properties, and consistent improvements to building regulations standards.
With thanks to our sustainability partner
With the help of our sustainability partner, SAV Systems EnergiRaven, we are proud to say that the 2024 Energy Saving Awards is carbon neutral. Working closely with carbon reduction engineers and the
event venue, the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, London, we will be able to calculate all the carbon that the live event produced. The Business Carbon Assessments will be completed by an independent third party to the
international standard and the globally recognised greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions verification. All the carbon produced by the event will be offset by a donation to a solar lighting project in Zambia.
Printing deadlines meant that we have been unable to include images from the Energy Saving Awards event in this issue, but look out for our February 2025 edition for further coverage.
Currently he chairs the British
Energy Efficiency Federation (BEEF) and oversees quarterly meetings held at the relevant government department with the heads of the 17 leading trade associations involved with the manufacture, distribution or installation of energy saving goods and services. A strong advocate of a ‘fabric first’ approach to energy saving in buildings, Andrew has consistently argued that how energy is used is just as important as how energy is generated, and continues to promote policies that reduce unnecessary energy consumption.
