Public Sector Project of the Year Winner: EVO Energy for the National Cycling Centre
Judge’s comment: “Impressive project with strong local impact, standing as a hallmark of an innovative green and low carbon solution.”
EVO Energy’s solar carport installation at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester is notable for its innovative approach to integrating renewable energy solutions in a challenging urban environment. The primary goal of this project was to support Manchester’s sustainability targets by providing renewable energy without compromising the structural integrity of the iconic National Cycling Centre. Traditional solar panels couldn’t be installed on the roof due to weight constraints,
so the solution was to create asymmetrical Y-shaped solar carports. This design not only generates renewable energy but also accommodates taller vehicles with roof-mounted bicycles. The installation features 11,676 TRINA solar panels, producing an impressive 171,788kWh of clean electricity annually, which equates to a reduction of 172 MWh in energy consumption per year. What sets this project apart is its thoughtful design and practical solutions. The Y-shaped canopies, with a clearance height of 3.5m,
ensure user convenience while enhancing aesthetic appeal with carbon grey frames. The use of Solaredge Module Level Power Electronics improves energy generation efficiency and addresses local shading issues, ensuring optimal panel performance. Additionally, integrated downlighting enhances safety and visual appeal at night, while external ventilated cages for solar inverters demonstrate adaptive problem-solving. Robust energy modelling and monitoring systems confirm significant energy savings. The Solaredge system maximises panel efficiency, and regular performance reports indicate that the carport consistently meets or exceeds energy generation targets. Beyond energy savings, the solar carports have made a meaningful impact on the community and environment. The project has become a symbol of sustainability in Manchester, enhancing the area’s aesthetic and providing educational opportunities through 850 apprentice hours focused on renewable energy. Environmentally, it significantly reduces the carbon footprint of the cycling centre and diverts 98% of waste from landfills, promoting responsible resource use and supporting local economies.
Lighting Product of the Year
Winner: Luceco for the Titan All- in-One LED Highbay light
The Titan All-in-One Highbay by Luceco is an innovative lighting solution designed for ultimate flexibility and performance. It simplifies lighting choices for contractors and wholesalers by integrating multiple functionalities into a single, adaptable product and sets a new standard for efficiency and convenience in industrial and commercial lighting. The product features a sensor-
ready Zhaga socket, which allows for easy plug-and-play installation of sensors. This feature enables smart lighting controls that adjust based on occupancy and ambient light levels, optimising energy use significantly. The Titan supports 0-10V dimming, providing precise control over light output. This means that during periods of low activity, lights can be dimmed to match actual needs, reducing energy consumption without sacrificing comfort. The Titan Highbay also offers adjustable wattage, variable colour temperatures and customisable beam angles, making it suitable for a range of environments.
For ultimate flexibility, the light is easily adaptable to any application, offering beam angle adjustment, seamless wattage change between 100, 150, and 200W, and customisable colour temperatures of 4000, 5000 and 6000K. Unique to the Titan All-in- One, the tool-free rotating beam angle adjustment allows for quick and precise changes between 60° degree narrow and 90° wide beam angles, ensuring optimal lighting for every environment. Boasting 100,000 hours of
lifespan, IP65 and IK08 ratings, the product provides reliable design, enhanced durability and versatile application while also featuring a die-cast aluminium body with polycarbonate lens, engineered to withstand the toughest environments. This is backed up with a five-year warranty for peace of mind. Finally, the Titan Highbay is

designed for maximum flexibility with a sensor-ready Zhaga socket for easy plug-and-play adjustability, supporting 0-10V dimming for precise control, and boasts an efficacy up to 170 lumens per watt, ensuring maximum light output with minimal energy consumption, leading to significant energy savings and lower operational costs.
Highly commended: CIAT for Kepier School
In 2022, Kepier School partnered with CIAT UK to transition from outdated, inefficient heating systems to modern, energy-efficient technologies. The primary objective was to drastically reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Within a year of implementing CIAT’s solution, which included seven CIAT MajorLine fan coil units (FCUs) and 31 CIAT COADIS fan coil units (FCUs), the school reported substantial energy savings, highlighting the project’s success and setting a precedent for similar institutions aiming for net zero emissions.
The installation of CIAT’s
equipment allowed the school to lower water temperatures from 80°C to 50°C, achieving a 30°C reduction in heating uplift. The initial decarbonisation stage delivered sizeable energy savings of 70kW a day during the heating

season, equating to an annual gas energy saving of 9,800kWh and reduced carbon emissions of 1,800kg CO2. Later analysis revealed a substantial 8.6% reduction in gas usage, equating to approximately 2,824 m2
of gas, or 31,446 kWh
in energy, from March 2022 to March 2023 compared to the same period from March 2019 to March 2020. This project is particularly innovative, as it integrates existing gas boilers into a future-proof system designed for seamless transition to heat pumps, maximising both immediate and long-term energy savings.
Highly Commended: Ledvance for Everloop
The Everloop range is designed so that the light sources and drivers can be easily replaced, meaning the luminaires themselves can remain in use almost indefinitely. This ultimately maximises the life of the luminaires, saving on resources and avoiding waste. Unlike conventional LED luminaires, Everloop products can be upgraded with new drivers and LED light sources at any time, providing them with an almost limitless lifespan. By embracing a circular economy, these luminaires play a vital role in reducing electronic waste, in line with EU sustainability initiatives. Their durable housing can last indefinitely, while the components are recyclable, further lowering the environmental footprint. This upgradeability not only enhances energy efficiency over time but also ensures adaptability to emerging technologies, eliminating the need for complete luminaire replacements.
Judge’s comment: “The easy component exchange makes this product stand out in the category.”
