Diversity
CREATING THE RIGHT ENVIRONMENT
A
s someone who has spent over a decade in channel marketing, I’ve witnessed firsthand the
evolution of diversity and inclusion within the IT and tech industry. While we’ve made significant strides in recent years, there’s still much work to be done to create a truly inclusive environment. When I first entered the tech channel,
it was predominantly male-dominated. Women were scarce, and those of us who were present oſten faced unconscious biases and limited opportunities. However, over the last decade, we’ve seen a gradual increase in female representation, thanks to the concerted efforts of many within the industry. Seagate Technology, where I currently

serve as senior channel marketing manager, is a prime example of a company committed to fostering diversity and inclusion. Seagate’s robust diversity policies have created an environment where all employees, regardless of gender, feel valued and supported. Personally, I’ve experienced the benefits of these policies, allowing me to thrive and grow in my career. Despite these positive developments,
the industry still has room for improvement. At industry events, outdated stereotypes and expectations persist, reminding us that while progress has been made, our journey is far from complete. However, the tech channel today is far more welcoming to newcomers, particularly women, than it was when I started. Tere are more opportunities now, and an increasing focus on recognising and celebrating the contributions of women in the field.

the tech channel has also improved. More women in leadership roles provide tangible proof that diversity is not only achievable but also beneficial to the industry. Seeing women in these positions is crucial because representation matters. It inspires the next generation and shows that success is possible. To continue this momentum, we
need more focus groups and grassroots efforts to educate and inform young people about career opportunities in the tech channel. Tese initiatives can break down barriers and showcase the diverse possibilities within our industry. Highlighting success stories and providing mentorship can make the tech channel an even more inclusive space. While we have made commendable
strides towards greater diversity and inclusion, there is still significant work to be done. Companies like Seagate Technology are leading the way with proactive policies and support for diverse talent. My journey at Seagate has shown me that with the right environment, diverse talents can thrive. As we continue to evolve, fostering an inclusive culture will be essential for sustained growth and innovation in the tech channel. In conclusion, I am optimistic about
the future of diversity and inclusion in our industry. We’ve come a long way, and with continued effort and commitment, we can achieve even greater milestones. Te tech channel is a far better space for women now, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for the next generation of diverse talent.
