Interview

“The circular economy is enormously crucial to Lenovo’s sustainability strategy”

Can you elaborate on some of the key ESG-aligned strategies that Lenovo is pursuing? At Lenovo, we help resellers deliver to customers in a sustainable and circular economy. Te Lenovo 360 Circle community allows channel partners to work together to provide circular outcomes for customers. For customers, sustainability itself is becoming an increasingly important consideration: paying attention to the impact of how products are recycled can help customers achieve their ESG goals. For customers, refreshing servers is not just a matter of reducing emissions: thanks to the lower power demands of newer servers, it also helps to find efficiencies and savings by weeding out old machines that are drawing power without delivering business value. Our Lenovo 360 Circle community is a hugely important ESG- aligned strategy which has grown steadily since we launched it in 2023. Lenovo 360 Circle offers partners a sustainability-focused community approach to ESG Initiatives. Rather than leaving each business to take its ESG journey in isolation, Lenovo 360 Circle allows partners to take a collective approach and succeed together. For resellers, partnering with vendors that pay attention to the entire product lifecycle (from sustainable shipping to recycling initiatives) will become increasingly important in the coming years. At Lenovo, we also excel in energy-efficient hardware and repair-friendly designs, which will continue to grow in importance.

Generative AI models are not just driving a rise in power requirements but also an increase in the density of compute required in data centres. Both of these factors are increasing demand for new cooling technologies. Technologies such as Lenovo’s Neptune allow data centres to move away from chilling the space with air conditioning and to use warm water, which is more effective and can be reused for heating. With companies facing increasing pressure to align operations with sustainability goals, liquid cooling systems are poised to replace older fan- based servers, paving the way for a more sustainable future in the data centre. Te circular economy is enormously crucial to Lenovo’s

sustainability strategy. We practice a ‘Design Use Return’ model in everything from manufacturing and operations to product take- back and value recovery. Services such as Asset Recovery Services (ARS) include data disposal (so businesses can use them with confidence) and responsible asset recovery, so machines are reused and refurbished where possible.

Why do you believe education and robust partnerships are crucial for successful AI adoption within the channel? Education and robust partnerships are key to dealing with some of the roadblocks around AI adoption. Partnerships will be hugely important: offering access to a partner ecosystem that includes AI Independent Soſtware Vendors (ISVs) in various applications and services is key. Education will also be vital. Even if companies buy the best AI soſtware and hardware, they can still have issues harnessing the technology. Robust partnerships and education can help to ensure that employees have the right skills to maximise AI investments and that customers avoid issues harnessing the technology. Channel partners are already keen to ride the wave of AI,

but turning ambition into fruition is what will matter in 2025. IT vendors must access state-of-the-art AI solutions, allowing customers to deploy AI faster, safely, and more efficiently. For our partners, we are a dependable ally who understands that AI’s value can only be unlocked when it’s customised to fit customers’ business needs. Lenovo helps our partners deliver bespoke AI solutions and helps customers extract maximum value from their data, achieving measurable ROI.
