News Lenovo pushes circular IT forward

LENOVO has launched a new chapter in its circular IT strategy, unveiling initiatives designed to extend the lifecycle of ageing technology and reduce electronic waste. As enterprises worldwide face mounting pressure to meet carbon reduction targets and manage rising technology costs, circular IT practices are gaining traction as a practical solution. Lenovo’s expanded approach focuses on prolonging device usability, reducing raw material consumption, and enabling customers to achieve measurable sustainability outcomes. Key programme highlights: • Lifecycle Extension Services: Lenovo will expand refurbishment and certified reuse programs, ensuring older devices remain productive for longer periods.

• Global Repair & Parts Network: Enhanced logistics and parts availability will support faster repairs, minimising downtime and extending device lifespans.

• Circular Partnerships: Collaboration with recycling and recovery partners will ensure responsible end-of-life management, with a focus on closed-loop material reuse.

• Customer Value: Enterprises adopting Lenovo’s circular IT solutions can reduce total cost of ownership while aligning with ESG commitments.

Circular IT is increasingly recognised as a cornerstone of sustainable digital transformation. Analysts note that

extending device lifecycles by even two years can cut associated carbon emissions by up to 30 per cent, while reducing e-waste volumes significantly. Lenovo’s initiative positions the company as a leader in operationalising these principles at scale. “Circular IT is not just about recycling, it’s about rethinking the entire lifecycle of technology,” said Laura Chen, Senior Vice President, Lenovo Services & Solutions Group. “By extending the usability of devices and embedding sustainability into every stage, we help customers achieve both environmental and economic value.”
