Sector Guide Toshiba rolls out S300 AI surveillance HDD
TOSHIBA ELECTRONICS EUROPE GMBH has unveiled the S300 AI, a new surveillance- focused hard disk drive designed to support the growing storage and data handling demands of AI-driven video systems. The drive targets applications such as high-resolution video capture, real-time analytics, long-term retention, and large-scale centralised storage.
The S300 AI range spans 8 TB to
24 TB and is built for continuous, high-volume recording across AI analytics servers, multi- bay RAID configurations, and video archive environments. Toshiba positions the series for deployments generating substantial volumes of video and metadata, including smart city infrastructure, transport networks, manufacturing
HP unveils compact AI PC and new Neo:LED monitor
HP has introduced a new desktop concept with the launch of the HP EliteBoard G1a Next Gen AI PC, a keyboard-based system designed to support increasingly mobile and adaptive workstyles.
Recognised as a CES Innovation Award Honoree, the device integrates a full AI PC into a compact keyboard chassis, reflecting shifting expectations around workspace flexibility and the need for hardware that can move easily between locations. The EliteBoard G1a incorporates an AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processor and an NPU rated at more than 50 TOPS to support local AI workloads. The 12 mm-thick unit includes integrated microphones and speakers and weighs 750 g, enabling connection to a range of external displays. Features such as HP Smart Sense and AMD Auto State Management adjust performance and cooling based on usage, while an optional internal battery allows short-term untethered operation. Security is anchored by HP Wolf Security for Business, which provides hardware-level protection for firmware and emerging quantum-related threats. Alongside the EliteBoard, HP also announced the Series 7
Pro 4K Monitor, which introduces Neo:LED technology to the desktop category. The display offers IPS Black performance, factory-calibrated colour accuracy, user-defined profiles, and 140 W Thunderbolt 4 connectivity to support high-bandwidth workflows.

sites, healthcare facilities, financial institutions, and logistics operations. According to Larry Martinez Palomo, Vice President and Head of the Storage Products Division at Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH, AI analytics are reshaping storage requirements across the surveillance sector, prompting the need for higher capacities, stronger performance, and increased reliability. The drives are tuned for the additional random access patterns
introduced by AI workloads, supporting up to 64 high- resolution camera streams and a further 32 AI streams. Reliability specifications include a 550 TB annual workload rating and a mean time to failure of up to 2.5 million hours, with 24/7 operation supported.
HANNspree launches Lumo, a dynamic paper tablet
HANNspree has announced a new tablet which has been designed to establish a distinct product category by combining a paper-like display with full tablet functionality. The Lumo Paper Tablet is an Android 14 device designed to offer the visual characteristics of reflective displays while maintaining colour performance, responsiveness, and app compatibility. The device features a 7.8-
inch panel capable of displaying 16.7 million colours, with a 60Hz refresh rate and a quoted 5ms response time. Unlike conventional LCD or OLED screens, the display reflects ambient light rather than relying on a backlight. According to HANNspree, this approach reduces glare and flicker and removes blue light emission, with brightness increasing in stronger lighting conditions. An integrated front light supports low-light use.
The display is based on the company’s ecoVISION technology, developed by parent firm HannStar. HANNspree positions the device for users who spend extended periods on screens, including professionals, students, and individuals with visual sensitivities. The tablet weighs 250g, measures 6.6mm thick, and includes speakers, a microphone, and support for an optional USI 2.0 stylus offering 4,096 pressure levels. Connectivity to standard Android applications enables general productivity, media use, and note-taking on a reflective display.
