WHY

SUSTAINABILITY WON’T GO AWAY

Although not as visibly on the agenda as it was at the start of the decade, sustainability continues to be a key issue for buyers of IT equipment, and therefore vitally important for channel partners, says Kevin Wragg, sustainability director, UK&I, TD Synnex.

ustainability took something of a back seat in the IT industry last year. But has it really disappeared from the agenda? Te answer

is an unequivocal ‘no’, In fact, it’s a subject that will continue to be a priority for businesses and consumers in 2026 and the long term. According to Gartner, the percentage of

organisations prioritising sustainability as part of procurement will rise to over 50% by 2029. Research firm Omida, which looks specifically at the channel, found that 42% of partners in the EMEA region were more focused on the subject in 2025, and almost as many, 39%, gave it the same level of priority. Tis means more than four out of five businesses maintained or increased their focus on sustainability last year. We’d expect that commitment to remain

solid and strengthen in 2026. Having a credible sustainability strategy can make the difference when it comes to winning new business. Te subject continues to be mentioned in requests for quotations and in our view, partners that stay committed to sustainability will reap positive rewards as interest in the circular economy and more energy-efficient infrastructure continues to grow.

is also a factor, and with workloads potentially soaking up a lot more energy, there is a need to get a better understanding of the sustainability implications. In the same report referenced above, Gartner identifies sustainability as one of the top trends shaping the future of cloud, and notes that cloud providers and users are increasingly sharing responsibility for delivering a sustainable infrastructure. For IT partners and suppliers, sustainability is

not a subject that can be swept aside or ignored. It’s going to be important to keep demonstrating commitment to sustainable practices and carbon reduction. Te underlying qualifier to all this is that,

while sustainability may become more of an influence on purchasing, the approach taken must align with key business outcomes. To really work – for the organisation and its stakeholders – the approach to sustainability must make practical sense. Tis is why it’s important to give some thought to the way in which you present sustainable options to customers and ensure you have identified the business value to them.

Long-term commitments At TD Synnex, we have been setting a positive example and continuing to drive down our own carbon emissions and underlining our commitments to go further. In this way, we
