Ca Go is a German cargo bike manufacturer that puts safety at the forefront of its design. Rebecca Bland speaks to Sophie Browne from the brand’s sole UK distributor AlsoBikes

f you’ve been to Eurobike over the past few years, you might have noticed a distinctive looking cargo bike brand by the name of Ca Go.
The bikes have only been in production since 2019, but the founders’ safety expertise and knowledge of electric cargo bikes goes far beyond that. Currently, they have two main models in their
repertoire: the CS, a unique mid-loading cargo bike, and the FS, their front loading option ideal for families. Until now, however, they haven’t really been made available to the UK – that is, until Sophie and Adam Browne, a husband and wife team that make up AlsoBikes, became Ca Go’s sole UK distributors. AlsoBikes are also distributors of Advanced bikes, who offer a range of electric bikes from trekking and urban options to mountain bikes. So for Sophie and AlsoBikes, taking on Ca Go opens up an entirely different market – and perhaps a completely new set of retailers. “There is another market out there with cargo bike focused shops,” said Sophie. “Those didn’t really make sense for us with Advanced, so there’s a whole new market that we don’t yet have relationships with that we can start off with.
“But it’s generally shops that are independently run, have a really focused selling approach and give

customers the option of test drives, and focus on getting the customer set up on the right bike for them. A lot of the owners of those retailers are from different industries than cycling, so they might have a slightly different head on them rather than a more traditional cycling shop.”
Prioritising safety Doing things differently isn’t just in the way AlsoBikes operates, but is the entire reason Ca Go was founded by Franc Arnold and Thorsten Michel as part of the RTI Group. After looking into how cargo bike boxes were being manufactured, they decided to build a prototype that enhanced the passenger’s safety, using Michel’s knowledge as a particle foam expert.
