COREbike 2024 saw Simon Cox sit down for a wide-ranging conversation with Nicola Poletti, global sales manager at Fizik. They discussed new product development, the product lifecycle, sustainability, manufacturing locations, and the omnichannel retail landscape.
Nicola, thanks for your time. COREbike is always busy, and Fizik have new product on show. What can you share with us about the expanded shoe range? We can say that Fizik shoes originally started with a traditional racing approach, when the tendency was to have a narrow fit, also feet closer to the tops of the shoe (low volume).
Simply because that is how traditional shoe lasts used to be at that time. Over the years, based on data and research, we have evolved towards more anatomical shapes.
The current fit, which we use on all standard-fit shoes, is more anatomical than the first generation. That means it offers more volume in the toe box area and is less curved. The fit is therefore more comfortable, especially on the

metatarsus, where the foot usually generates pressure on the little finger.
So, starting with a more anatomical fit, we developed a wider fit range. From market feedback, we understood that people are paying more and more attention to comfort on the bike - it’s not just a matter of performance and racing. Now Fizik develops five different ‘wide fit’ models, offered from high end to our entry-level. This is a major product launch for us.
The difference is, in all these models, we have seven millimetres more width, compared to our new, already wider, standard, shoe. In addition to the extra width, we also have 13mm (it refers to size 42) extra volume. All shoes use the same heel counter. We’re really pleased to be able to offer riders a wider and higher volume shoe.
