second stage’s forward-path transimpedance gain is achieved by adopting the compound arrangement of an emitter-follower driving a common emitter stage as shown in Figure 1. By this method, the increase in the second stage’s forward-path transimpedance gain is at least twice that attainable with a cascode. For this reason, and because of its superlative linearity, the simple circuit of Figure 1 has not been improved upon in any substantive way, especially of domestic consumer applications.
