Expert Reviews research reveals that UK shoppers trust retailers more than influencers with home tech recommendations

CIH hits the road with “Reloaded” events

Combined Independents (Holdings) Ltd (CIH) has hailed the launch of its new Tradeshow Reloaded regional events, bringing suppliers and Euronics members together at two locations across the UK. The electrical buying group held the inaugural events at Ascot Racecourse on 20 September and Aintree Racecourse on 27 September, giving members in the North and South greater access to networking, supplier deals and updates from the CIH leadership team. Tradeshow Reloaded builds on the group’s established Showcase event, but is designed to bring the format closer to members and reduce the amount of time independent retailers need to spend away from their businesses. More than 30 suppliers attended each event, showcasing new products and

offering exclusive promotions to members ahead of the crucial peak trading period. Both events also featured presentations from the CIH leadership team, covering

group performance, supplier and service developments, upcoming initiatives and commercial opportunities. Members were given the opportunity to put questions directly to CIH CEO Harry Kyriacou, Chairman Steve Scogings and Vice Chairman Andrew Thomas, before meeting suppliers and exploring the latest products and promotions. Attendees were also offered event-exclusive deals, including flexible delivery schedules aimed at giving retailers greater control over stock during the busiest trading months.

New survey data from Expert Reviews’ 2026 TV Awards has revealed that UK shoppers trust retailers more than they trust social media influencers when deciding which electrical home appliances to buy. According to Expert Reviews’ recent survey data, 44 per cent of UK respondents said that retailers and manufacturers had influenced their most recent electrical home purchase – the highest percentage amongst all respondents. Meanwhile, only 20 per cent of UK respondents said that their purchase was influenced by social media influencers or content creators. This new data reveals that consumer trust now lies in the hands of retailers over those of social media creators. Though content creators and influencer marketing are considered to be powerful

tools for driving sales, Expert Reviews’ insights find that when it comes to sourcing the best electrical home appliances, social media content creators do not have the same level of influence as retailers. The second most influential factor when purchasing electrical home appliances

are consumer review publications, with 39 per cent of UK respondents saying that these publications influenced what they bought.

Expert Reviews’ data ultimately highlights how in a digital age of ever-evolving social media sales tactics, retailers remain the most trusted source of information amongst UK shoppers, and have the most powerful influence over UK electrical home purchase decisions.
