TCL sets its sights on a bigger, brighter and smarter future for television

With bigger screens, brighter displays and smarter technology on the agenda, TCL had plenty to show off at IFA 2026. ERT takes a closer look at the manufacturer’s latest TV innovations, its ambitions in the premium market and why AI could make life that little bit easier.

approach to AI was about technology finding its way into people’s everyday lives and making things a little easier. It was an interesting starting point for a presentation that went on to cover everything from flagship televisions to the future of connected entertainment.

company’s impressive Hall 21A stand, TCL Chief Technology Officer Daniel Sun outlined the manufacturer’s vision for an “AI Inspired Life”, with its Inspiration Habitat demonstrating how intelligent technology could become a more natural part of everyday living. However, behind the talk

A of connected

homes and artificial intelligence was a clear message for the television market: TCL is continuing to push the boundaries of what Mini LED technology can achieve, while making the viewing experience smarter and more personalised. And with increasingly large screens becoming a familiar sight in living rooms, the manufacturer certainly wasn’t holding back when it came to picture quality. “We don’t mean technologies in the lab,” Mr Sun told the audience, explaining that TCL’s

Pushing Mini LED further The centrepiece of TCL’s

rtificial intelligence was everywhere at IFA this year, but for TCL, the television remained very much the star of the show. Taking to the stage at the

television showcase was the X11L SQD- Mini LED TV, its flagship model and one of the clearest demonstrations of how far the company has come in the premium market. Featuring TCL’s next-generation SQD- Mini LED technology, the X11L combines a Super Mini LED Backlight, Super QLED technology and a WHVA 2.0 Ultra Panel, with the manufacturer claiming up to 20,736 precise dimming zones, HDR brightness reaching 10,000 nits and up to 100 per cent coverage of the BT.2020 colour gamut. These are some impressive figures, but the aim is straightforward: better contrast, more accurate colours and greater control over the picture, particularly in scenes containing both bright highlights and darker areas. Speaking about TCL’s

technology, Mr Sun highlighted the manufacturer’s

investment in

display innovation, introducing the X11L as the company’s flagship model and drawing attention to its picture quality, brightness and ultra-slim design.

The X11L also incorporates TCL’s All-domain Halo Control Technology, designed to reduce the unwanted glow that can sometimes appear around bright objects against dark backgrounds. And despite the considerable amount of technology packed inside, the television measures just 2cm thick, with a virtually borderless design and an ultra-slim mounting system.

Sound is another important part of the package. TCL has continued its partnership with Bang & Olufsen, with the X11L featuring a specially developed audio system incorporating a centre channel, dual deep-bass subwoofers and surround sound.

Something for every living room Of course, not every customer is shopping for a flagship television, and TCL’s wider UK offering demonstrates how the manufacturer is bringing some of its latest display developments into more accessible price brackets. The C8L and C7L series both feature SQD- Mini LED technology, providing alternatives to the X11L while retaining an emphasis on brightness, colour reproduction and contrast. The C7L, for example, offers screen sizes ranging from 55 to 98 inches, with up to 2,176 precise dimming zones, HDR brightness of up to 3,000 nits and Audio by Bang & Olufsen. Gaming has also received attention, with

features including TCL’s 288Hz VRR Game Accelerator and Game Master technology, aimed at delivering smoother gameplay and more responsive performance. It is a particularly interesting part of TCL’s

strategy. Rather than keeping its latest display innovations exclusively at the very top of the range, the manufacturer is extending them across several price points. That gives retailers a clearer upgrade story, allowing customers to see what additional spending can deliver in terms of brightness, picture processing, sound and screen size.
