Ho-ho-home for Christmas

24

Sales of SDA have already soared this year, but with Christmas just around the corner what would tempt consumers to gift themselves or a loved one to a fancy new gadget?

T

here’s no doubt this festive season will be very different, and with everyone likely to be forced to stay at home, kitchen appliances will take centre stage for preparing

and cooking the Christmas dinner… and cleaning up afterwards! Whether it’s a present for a home chef, a

foodie or a new homeowner, there are so many great gifts to choose from in the SDA category. Or consumers may be looking to just treat themselves. Why not make baking easier this Christmas

with Haden’s new Stand Mixer? Consumers can create delicious desserts and dishes with this handy kitchen gadget, which has seven speed settings, a five-litre stainless steel bowl, whisk attachment, dough hook and flat beater. Gary Sharp, Group SDA Sales Director at RKW,

says Christmas has always been a key date in the SDA calendar, and even though 2020 has been a year like no other, strong sales are expected across all brands. Discussing the top Christmas products from the

company’s own flagship brand, Tower, Mr Sharp adds: “One of our hero products is undoubtedly the Digital Air Fryer Oven in Rose Gold, which uses Vortx rapid air circulation technology, vastly reducing the time taken to fry. “The large family-sized oven means there is an

extra 75 per cent cooking capacity to healthily cook a variety of foods at the same time. The added rotisserie function also makes it ideal for cooking delicious, juicy chicken or a small turkey.

‘More meaningful presents’… …says John Davies, Head of Marketing at Smeg UK. The great

We see a growth in business every year around this time, especially in small appliances

in the lead up to the Christmas. We have recovered from the bleaker picture

earlier this year where many businesses were not trading and we’re expecting strong sales in cooking, refrigeration and small appliances. Smeg has always been a brand proudly displayed in the heart of people’s homes and the kitchen has adapted into such a versatile living, entertaining and work space.

British public certainly are fixated with being ready for the Christmas period and having appliances with enough capacity to cater. For this reason the swell in cooking appliances is noticeable. Yet at the same time,

many of our small appliances are also purchased as gifts – as well as selfish indulgence! – from coffee machines, hand blenders and mixers to the classic kettle and toaster breakfast set. We believe people will be buying more

meaningful presents this year. Perhaps less is more, particularly centred around the home where we are all spending so much more time. Looking ahead, Smeg will be launching

several exciting new colourways on the SDA side and a range of cookware for the first time – expected to be revealed in Milan in April and later next year, too.
