This interview was conducted before the second lockdown.

‘We’re shaking up the set-top box market’

… The words of Humax Director, Rob Peacock, as he and James Sandison tell Jack Cheeseman all about the attractive features of their “game-changing” new device.

Peacock, Director at Humax, and James Sandison, Sales and Marketing Manager, were noticeably very proud of their latest addition – the ultra HD TV recorder, called AURA, which is powered by Android TV technology.

U

ntil last month, we had not seen a new set-top TV box from Humax for a few years. But by the bosses’ own admission, it was worth the wait. Speaking with ERT recently, Rob

It is “unlike anything” the market has seen before,

according to Mr Peacock. “We think it brings a massive opportunity for everyone, particularly our retail partners.” There’s more about the product shortly. But getting

to this point of launch during the course of this year has not been without its trials and tribulations for the Korean manufacturer. Mr Peacock adds: “Things were affected, for sure. We

had anticipated launching the AURA product a little earlier in the year; I think whilst components haven’t been a major issue, nothing has been normal by any means.” Indeed, it has been a very different year for

everyone in the industry. “A very strange time,” he says, adding that like most other manufacturers across the world, when China closed down it had a huge impact on production, and not just for TV brands. “I think one of the big positives – and there aren’t

that many! – that we can draw from the challenges of this year is the impact on online business, and therefore retail businesses as a whole.” Mr Peacock and his team started this year embarking

on a period of change for the Humax website and all its related content and associated digital partners. As it happens, he says, this stood the company in good stead during the lockdown back in the Spring.
