into product development. With the rapid evolution of AI, smart technology will play a major role in creating homes that are more intuitive, efficient and responsive to individual needs.”
Connected convenience Connectivity extends across dish care, too.
“We recently introduced our new 7000, 8000 and 9000 Series dishwasher range, our most advanced yet in terms of energy, noise and water usage. Featuring Smart Select Connect, these models combine sleek touch controls with app connectivity, allowing users to personalise cycles, monitor energy consumption and access features such as ExtraSilent, GlassCare and ExtraDry.” Defining connected appliances within today’s landscape, Mr Forbes explains: “Connected appliances are Wi-Fi enabled home devices – from ovens and hobs to fridges, freezers, washing machines and dishwashers – that link to an app on a user’s phone. They allow remote monitoring and control, maintenance alerts, energy optimisation and even voice commands.” He adds that connectivity is transforming the
product lifecycle. “Software updates can be pushed directly to the appliance, and predictive maintenance alerts help users know when action is required. Through the My AEG Care app, consumers can receive laundry advice and automatic notifications for descaling or if a door has been left open. These features support better day-to-day care and can help extend the lifespan of appliances.” Addressing consumer concerns around
energy, Mr Forbes notes: “Our research shows that 53% of consumers say energy efficiency will be a major factor in their next purchase, and 43% say energy costs limit their use of tumble dryers. Our connected appliances address these concerns through remote monitoring, maintenance alerts and usage optimisation, helping reduce waste and support more sustainable living. At the same time, connectivity adds convenience – whether that’s checking on cooking progress from another room or receiving tailored guidance to remove the guesswork from mealtimes.”
Looking ahead, he concludes: “Over the next 10 years, connected appliances will become increasingly normalised and seamlessly integrated
