You’re gonna need a bigger mop…

As consumers demand more convenience, deeper hygiene and better value, brands are responding with intelligent features, cordless performance and targeted solutions, giving electrical retailers fresh opportunities to drive margin and engagement in one of the most resilient categories on the shop floor. ERT reports as the category continues to clean up.

F

loorcare remains one of the most dynamic categories in small domestic appliances, driven by innovation, lifestyle shifts and growing demand for convenience. In the UK, the residential vacuum cleaner market was worth around $774 million (£600m+) in 2025 and is forecast to grow at nearly 10 per cent annually through to 2033, reflecting strong consumer appetite for new formats and technologies. Automation and smarter homes are also accelerating change within the category. Robot vacuum cleaners, for example, are expected to see particularly rapid growth, with the UK market projected to expand at more than 22 per cent CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) through to 2030 as households adopt AI- powered cleaning and hands-free maintenance

systems. Meanwhile, demand continues to pivot toward cordless sticks and robotic models, as urban households prioritise convenience, flexible runtime and smart-home integration. For electrical retailers, this shift is reshaping the category mix on the shop floor. Cordless remains

the dominant format, but newer segments, including robot vacuums, wet & dry cleaners and compact spot cleaners, are opening fresh opportunities for differentiation and trade-up sales.

Smart moves According to Anker Innovations, which develops robot vacuums under its eufy brand, the floorcare category in 2026 is increasingly defined by intelligent automation and health-focused cleaning. As robot vacuums evolve, they are becoming significantly more sophisticated, using artificial intelligence (AI) to better understand home environments and optimise cleaning strategies. Modern systems are able to recognise different floor types, furniture layouts and high-traffic areas, automatically adjusting cleaning modes to improve efficiency and results.
