As Teka prepares to re-enter the UK market under the ownership of Midea Group, Mauro Avila Correia, Vice President Europe at Midea Group, speaks to ERT’s Will McGill about the brand’s heritage, and the strategy behind rebuilding awareness with retailers and consumers.
F
ollowing its acquisition by Midea Group, kitchen appliance brand Teka is preparing to re-establish itself in the UK market.
Founded in Germany in 1924, the
company originally produced agricultural machinery before moving into stainless steel and eventually kitchen sinks and appliances - categories that would come to define the business. Over the past century, Teka has developed into a global kitchen specialist, producing ovens, hobs, extractor hoods, sinks and taps, with products sold in more than 100 countries. The brand has historically held strong positions across Southern Europe and Latin America, where it built a reputation for design-led built-in kitchen solutions. Now, backed by one of the world’s largest appliance manufacturers, the company believes
the time is right to reignite its UK ambitions. The acquisition by Midea was completed in April 2025 following a multi-year process. “Like all M&A processes, it took a couple of years,” says Mauro Avila Correia, Vice President Europe at Midea Group. “We started building the process in 2023 and the deal closed at the end of April 2025.” Just four months later, the brands appeared publicly together for the first time. “IFA in 2025 was the big moment when we showed all the brands together,” he explained. “Midea, Teka and Küppersbusch were all presented within the Midea Group set-up.”
European heritage brand Teka’s history stretches back around a century, with roots in Germany before its global
headquarters moved to Spain. According to Mr Correia, that European heritage remains central to the brand’s identity.
“The origin of the brand is German – founded by Theodor Klein and Karl Thielmann – which later became TK and eventually Teka,” he shares. “Over the years the base moved to Spain, which became the global headquarters.” Manufacturing in Europe also remains an important part of the company’s structure. “One of the very positive things is that we maintain factories in Spain, Italy, Portugal and Sweden. For the cooking category especially, production is local to local, which is very important.” Design plays a major role in the brand’s philosophy, with Teka focusing on the broader kitchen environment rather than individual appliances.
