2024 launches

The brand has some really exciting TV and soundbar product launches coming up this year, which Mr Clark says will offer its retail partners truly unique functionality to improve consumers’ viewing and listening experiences at home. TVs will come with Amazon Prime, Netflix Studio and Sony Pictures CORE calibration modes, which really bring the cinema home. These modes are delivered through Sony’s unique position within the movie and TV industry that allows the company to work closely with key content producers to make sure that consumers get the optimal picture and sound when watching the great content that is available through these providers. Most Sony training courses can be delivered as conventional face-to-face sessions; these are run in a meeting room, a classroom or a studio, quite often involving the physical product that is the subject of the course or session. Then there are remote training options – set up and delivered just like a face-to-face session but attendees will watch remotely from their workplace or home. This provides complete flexibility around scheduling and delivery; for example, a four-day remote training course does not have to run over four consecutive days, perhaps if attendees are unable to join the course for four days in a row. Sony’s remote training uses comprehensive multimedia controls with multiple cameras and video connections so attendees can watch and participate as if they are there in the room. “We still strongly believe in delivering in- person training these days,” continues Mr Clark, “but we also appreciate that it’s not always possible for colleagues to join us. So by offering the same content and demonstration approach with our online training platform we hope to be able to bring the same in-person experience to those unable to join us, as well as create a more engaging approach and style to our online content.”

Sony’s other format of training is via on- demand videos – short video content that explains core product features, technologies and principles. These videos are sometimes used as pre-learning material for some face- to-face or remote training courses, or as supplementary material for some courses. Mr Clark explains that the pandemic forced a

real change in how the company had to work due to the restrictions that everyone faced… “Of course, we weren’t alone in this and we all had to work differently,” he says. “But this also gave us an opportunity to evolve the content we produce. “I am very passionate about continuing to

improve the way we deliver our training materials and we really appreciate the feedback we get when we meet our retail partners at events like the annual ERT Awards. “We are very fortunate to always have a positive

response to our content. Our partners are very supportive and we get great viewing numbers for our online training sessions (currently 234 attendees for our last event). It’s great to get real time feedback during the sessions via the live chat function, as well as the follow-up emails we receive giving us great constructive feedback and ideas on how we can improve elements of the sessions for our retail colleagues.” Building on this, Mr Clark tells ERT about his plans to develop Sony’s training content to provide even greater support to the company’s retail partners… “I want to make it as fun and engaging as possible,” he says. “We are considering options for a more long-term learning programme supported with a ‘gamification’ element that will allow us to thank and reward colleagues for taking part. Our brilliant team behind the scenes is coming up with ideas for this, so watch this space!”
