Bradfords signs Slade as MoBros Captain

Selco supports youth charities

If it’s November, it’s Mo-vember at Bradfords, and the builders merchant has signed England and Exeter Chiefs rugby star Henry Slade to head-up its 2024 fundraising campaign. Bradfords is looking to exceed the success of the 2021 campaign, which raised £17,000. Activities across the 46 branches include a 24-hour cyclothon at Bradfords’ Branch Support Centre in Yeovil, and exclusive MoBros merchandise. MoBros Chairman and Bradfords’ CEO David Young said: “We’re proud to be a partner to Movember and to help raise crucial funds supporting men’s mental health, suicide prevention, prostate and testicular cancer. The sorts of issues Movember campaign on directly impact our core trade audience – they matter to them, and they matter to us. Henry’s signing, and our fundraising plans, sends a clear message to our competition – that when it comes to taking care of the trades, we’re ready to compete at the highest level.”

MoBros Captain, Henry Slade, added: “I can’t wait to join the team and start growing something special. In raising awareness and supporting innovations for testicular and prostate cancer, and giving mental health the focus it so desperately deserves, the team know they’re making a huge difference.”

Bradfords’ support for Movember aligns with wider commitments made across the business to support the mental and physical health of employees, communities and the wider trades.

A charity that provides essential youth services in Slough and a hostel providing a safe home environment for teenage girls who are facing homelessness in Whalley Range, have each secured £500 worth of materials from Selco Builders Warehouse through the merchant’s Community Heroes campaign. Together As One is planning upgrades to its Slough High Street facility. The organisation has a mission to provide opportunities for young people in the town. Its offering include support for young carers, a film club and a group for those with special educational needs and disabilities.

Rob Deeks, CEO of Together As One, said the money would be put towards building an accessible ground-level toilet at its base. “We believe in striving for social change, working with young people

from all faiths and backgrounds to make a positive difference in our community through training, youth work and creative projects. Since moving to our converted shop unit on High Street, we’ve realised the urgent need for accessible facilities so that everyone can feel welcome to use our services.”

Contact Hostel cares for up to nine teenage girls at a time. Helen Gazard, Fundraising Partner at Contact Hostel, said: “We are delighted to receive the support of Selco. Maintaining our living areas and providing a home for vulnerable teenage girls when they need it most is our top priority, so help like this is always welcome.”
