WHAT’S COOKING IN KITCHENS? A
The predictions for what 2025’s kitchens will look like have been revelaled as Will McGill finds out.
s the year draws to a close, it’s an opportunity to make some calculated predictions on what to expect in 2025 when it comes to kitchen designs – and therefore what you, as merchants, can expect to hear from your customers.
Following a challenging couple of years for the home improvement sector, there is optimism on the horizon with the Construction Products Association forecasting a 3 per cent growth in private-housing repair, maintenance and improvement in 2025, followed by a further rise of 4 per cent in 2026. Rachel Tuckey, chief product and marketing officer at Häfele UK, says: “The most popular colours of kitchen cabinets in 2025, Real Homes has suggested we’ll see an increase in white cabinetry doors which make kitchens feel spacious and modern and can then be paired with more experimental colours in other elements such as splashbacks.
“Knowing coloured splashbacks are often utilised as a way of injecting personality into a space, we’ve recently added four new colours from AluSplash’s Essenza range to our portfolio, including two which pair perfectly
with white cabinets to add a premium luxe feel to a kitchen.
Taking inspiration from stellar explosions, ‘Supernova’ brings a rich and warming hue to the home, while ‘Neutron’, a more intense and suave shade, provides the perfect backdrop for a minimalist kitchen brought to life through accessories. For those still opting for darker cabinets, which will remain popular, ‘Milkyway’ offers a complement in a light and reflective finish, while ‘Eclipse’, a golden shade, creates a statement against black, dark grey, and dark green cabinet doors.”
Connectivity
According to Exploding Topics, search volume for ‘connected kitchen’ has increased more than 119% in the past five years. Smart connectivity is now standard in many kitchen products, from lighting and sound systems to ovens and dishwashers, and these innovations offer consumers unparalleled convenience, such as remotely preheating ovens or checking dishwasher cycles from a smartphone. Tuckey adds: “In our Homes for Living report released earlier this year, almost 12% of homeowners said smart and Wi-Fi-enabled appliances would be in their top ten most desired items in their next kitchen. Exploding Topics has also reported search results for ‘AI oven’ have increased 589% t in recent years, so it’s no surprise to see smart technology in this area advancing rapidly.”
When it comes to handles, wooden and other natural materials Tuckey predicts softer colour palettes, while bronzes, brasses and blacks will continue to dominate. “Away from colour, we see the traditional bar handle shape facing tough competition from more adventurous styles, with a rise in weird and wonderful shapes and sizes of handle,” she explains.

Tom Hopper, says: “Creating a warm and welcoming cocooning aesthetic is going to be a key kitchen trend in 2025, harnessing earthy and natural tones for both cabinetry and appliances. It’s a perfect way to embrace cooking and entertaining at home, creating a calming and soothing sanctuary in which to relax and unwind with family and friends. “Miele is unveiling a new Pearl Beige colourway for its Artline range in November 2024, which is perfect for this forthcoming trend. The built-in ovens, steam combination ovens, microwave combination ovens, warming drawers and coffee machines will all feature a glossy surface with subtle glittering effect, designed to seamlessly integrate with both light and dark kitchens.”
Modern appliances come complete with automatic cleaning, and enable consumers to live an easier lifestyle without the worry of cleaning their ovens or cookers. Matt black finishes will also prove to be particularly popular; Hopper says that over 191,000 posts have been shared on Instagram with the #mattblack tag.
He adds: “2025 will also see an increase in consumers shopping sustainably, choosing products that save both water and energy to help the planet and the pocket. Miele’s eco- friendly appliances help to achieve this while also delivering the highest possible level of performance.
“This includes washing machines that can automatically release the right amount of detergent for the load type and heat pump tumble dryers that conserve energy and save money; costing just £100 a year to run compared to around £400 a year when using a vented model. Miele dishwashers meanwhile feature automatic detergent dispensing technology, which when combined with PowerDisk, reduces detergent consumption by up to 30%.
