BMF’s Sector Awareness Programme – Members Toolkit

Since the pre-launch to BMF members in the Spring and the full member launch at the BMF’s annual conference in September, the sector awareness programme with its centrepiece, the bmcareers.com website, has been gaining more and more momentum.

BMF members are being encouraged to get involved by nominating a key contact (or contacts) for their business and then to log into the website so that they can set up their own Employer Profile linking to back to their own business website and careers/jobs page.

One area that is less well known currently is the huge wealth of creative and support assets that the BMF has loaded onto the Members Area of the bmcareers.com website. Once registered and logged in, BMF members are able to download and use a whole raft of useful ‘assets’ that have been created to help members to maximise their benefit from the BMF’s investment in raising the profile of the building materials sector. The assets are largely aimed at

assisting BMF members to help position themselves and their brand within the sector, link their own website with the bmcareers. com website, strengthen their own HR and to assist with their own social media programmes. John Newcomb, BMF CEO explained further: ‘We have created this

members’ toolkit to underpin the sector awareness programme.

It is designed to address issues of low awareness, poor image perceptions and create positive, consistent messaging to define what we do and why building a career in our unique sector makes excellent sense. Only by working together can we shape and strengthen the future of Building Materials.’

Ultimately, the Toolkit is designed to help BMF members

compete more effectively for talent by presenting a unified and compelling message, building a strong, easily recognisable, sector- wide employer brand. Many of the assets in the Toolkit are designed to support members marketing and HR activities – they relate to website imagery, leaflets and brochures that members can repurpose for their own use in events such as careers fairs and also images and video’s that can be used in social media.

The video footage includes a 60 second film that showcases the many roles, diverse people and environments that make our sector ‘materially different’ and there are also shorter edits of 20 seconds and 12 seconds duration focusing on different parts of the sector and roles within it. BMF members who are registered with the sector awareness programme (which is free of charge to all members) are already exploring and using these professional assets within their own businesses to align their own activities in support of the overall programme. Any members who want more information or to get involved are encouraged to visit bmcareers.com and register via the ‘Members Area’ link at the foot of the home page.
