DRAINAGE MARSH FINDS NATURAL SOLUTIONS
Phosphate and nitrate reduction are becoming more of an environmental issue, BMJ meets one company that’s offering a solution
P
hosphate pollution is a significant environmental issue, leading to harmful algal blooms that deplete oxygen and disrupt aquatic ecosystems. In response to growing environmental regulations, Marsh Industries has developed a state-of-the-art sewage treatment system that reduces phosphate levels to below 0.28 mg/l, far exceeding current standards. This solution was rigorously tested and certified at PIA GmbH test facility, in Aachen, Germany.
The company’s sequential batch reactor (SBR) sewage treatment plant and Phosphate reduction system, the Marsh Nutra-Lite and Marsh Phos-Lite, when combined is capable of reducing phosphate levels to below 0.28 mg/l without the need for chemical dosing. This achievement surpasses stringent targets set by Natural England and the Environment Agency. What makes Marsh Industries’ new system unique is its ability to achieve these results without chemical dosing, using instead Phos- Lite Pellets – a natural mineral media that captures and retains phosphates, ensuring that treated water is safer for the environment. In conjunction with this launch, Marsh Industries has also announced an exclusive partnership with Water Warriors of Wisconsin, USA, granting the company exclusive supply and manufacturing rights in the UK and Ireland for Phos-Lite Pellets, a mineral-based media that significantly reduces phosphate levels in sewage and water treatment applications. “At Marsh Industries, our mission is to deliver innovative and sustainable wastewater treatment solutions,” says managing director Steve Boyer. “By developing an advanced sewage treatment plant and non-dosing system that meets the latest environmental standards, we’re not only supporting our customers but also contributing to the protection of the UK’s natural water bodies.

Our exclusive partnership with Water Warriors for Phos-Lite Pellets confirms our commitment to using the best available technology to achieve these goals.”
Benefitting the off-mains sector The new sewage treatment plant system offers significant advantages for UK sewage plant installers, builders’ merchants, and water companies:
Natural, non-dosing solution: by using the Phos-Lite pellets, a natural mineral media, to reduce phosphate levels, simplifying operations and reducing the environmental impact of chemical use.
Cost-effective and low maintenance: the non-dosing approach minimises the need for frequent maintenance and chemical adjustments, leading to cost savings over the plant’s lifetime.
Enhanced compliance: by achieving phosphate levels below 0.28 mg/L, the plant ensures compliance with the tightest environmental standards, allowing water companies to meet regulatory obligations. Ease of integration: the plant is designed for seamless integration into existing systems, making it versatile for new installations and retrofits. Builders’ merchants will find this product a valuable addition to their offerings, catering to the growing demand for environmentally responsible wastewater treatment solutions.
Phos-Lite pellets are a unique mineral-based media developed by Water Warriors that naturally reduce phosphate levels without the need for chemical dosing. The pellets bind with phosphates, allowing easy removal during the
treatment process. This technology has been proven effective in the USA and is now available exclusively through Marsh Industries. “We are excited to partner with Marsh Industries to bring Phos-Lite pellets to the UK and Ireland,” says Steve Chamberland, co-founder of Water Warriors of Wisconsin. “Our Phos-Lite technology has been shown to effectively reduce phosphate levels naturally, and we are confident that Marsh Industries’ expertise and commitment to environmental innovation will make this a successful collaboration.” Lydia Beaumont, commercial director at Marsh Industries Limited, added: “Our partnership with Water Warriors and the exclusive rights to Phos- Lite pellets is transformative for the UK sewage treatment industry. This collaboration enables us to offer a product that combines natural processes with cutting-edge technology, providing a reliable, sustainable and ‘natural solution’ for phosphate reduction.” BMJ
MARSH STRENGTHENS
EXTERNAL SALES TEAM Marsh Industries has announced significant enhancements to its external sales team. • Mark Bishop, formerly with Clenviro, joins as contract sales manager • Stuart Thompson, previously at Premier Tech Aqua, assumes the role of northern divisional manager • Oliver Beaumont continues as national sales manager • Mike Harrison remains business development manager
These strategic changes aim to provide merchant customers with comprehensive sales support and to effectively promote the company’s forthcoming phosphate and nitrate reduction products. “This expansion of our sales team demonstrates our dedication to offering the best total package to our customers,” said Boyer. “We’re excited about the expertise our new team members bring and the enhanced ability to support our product launches.”
