DECORATING
ONE BRAND TO BOND THEM ALL A
Saint-Gobain has launched a whole new adhesives and sealants brand, OneBond. BMJ finds out why.
dhesives and sealants have always formed a crucial part of the offer from Saint-Gobain Surface Solutions, a global business
powered by solid brands that provide surface solutions for many markets, including building and construction. It also manufactures abrasives, tapes, composites, and films. The OneBond brand and portfolio is the latest edition to the Surface Solutions family, says Saint-Gobain Abrasives marketing manager Stacey Booth. “Adhesives and sealants are a great alternative to traditional mechanical fasteners, which can help to reduce costs and time on site. Despite the time and cost savings, the performance is just as good, if not better,” she says, adding that adhesives and sealants have come a long way in recent years; the MS Hybrid range, for example, now offers superior properties, such as greater strength and durability. The products are also becoming more environmentally friendly. “Our focus was to make our products as environmentally friendly as possible and offer low emissions products. To reinforce this, our most popular products are available in 600ml sausages to help reduce the amount of plastic in our packaging,” she says.
The OneBond products have low emissions, with most products scoring A+ for indoor air emissions on VOCs or Volatile Organic Compounds. In addition, some have been awarded the EMICODE®
label, showing they
comply with the most stringent emission limits. The OneBond range has been developed to offer the most popular products tradespeople expect when using adhesives and sealants. However, Booth says the company also wanted to introduce more innovative products such as the MS Hybrid range, which offers excellent strength properties up to 300kg per sq m. “Hybrid adhesives and sealants have become
increasingly popular in the construction industry as they offer a cost-effective solution that combines the benefits of different types of adhesives and sealants into one product, resulting in improved performance and longer-lasting results,” she says.
“In fact, each MS Hybrid product offers unique properties, such as having high UV and humidity resistance, withstanding high temperatures and can be painted once cured. They can even be applied underwater.” “For the light construction markets, we have a range of products that address core applications for tradespeople, and OneBond is no different in this case,” she explains. Ideal for glazing applications, the range offers multi- purpose Silicone sealants, which for sealing interior window frames, and includes Silicone Construction seals for window frame exteriors. The MS Hybrid adhesives and sealants can fill glass-to-glass connections, and seal windows and around air vents.
Then there’s the PU40 sealant for roofing which seals metal roofs, cladding joints, roof tiles and gutter seals, which Booth says works well with the MS Hybrid Ultra-Strong adhesive, used for mounting gutters, façade, and fireproof panels.
“When it comes to construction and masonry, expansion joints can be filled and sealed with PU40, whilst masonry, window/door frames and roof panels are easily sealed with Acrylic Exterior,” she says. “For paving jobs, repairs or fixes can be achieved with Acrylic Easy Nail; and for carpentry, we have a range of glues to help bond and secure wooden parts and acrylic sealants for joinery and sealing joints, such as those found on stairs.”
When it comes to the decoration, plumbing and tiling market, Acrylic Easy Nail can fix a
range of materials and is ideal for fixing cornices, skirting boards, plasterboards and wood. The Acrylic Universal product completes the process by sealing joints and cracks.
“For kitchens and bathrooms, our Silicone Sanitary range covers all sealing applications from bath and kitchen sinks to shower trays, bathtubs and ceramic tiles. The sealants in this range are both sanitary and waterproof, with resistance against sunlight, temperature variation, and humidity.”
Booth says that the aim was to develop a range which would address all the core needs of tradespeople working in the construction sector. “We have focused on keeping the range concise and easy to understand with clear and informative packaging. OneBond compliments our other brands and products that serve the construction sector.”
She adds that the breadth of the Saint-Gobain portfolio means distributors only need to deal with one supplier. “Whether it’s point-of-sale, marketing support, or training – we ensure our customers are best placed to not only stock but promote the products to trades and feel comfortable selling the range.
“OneBond ensures there is a sealant for every kind of job, no matter how big or small and offers more economical options in its acrylic sealant range. Prioritising user safety with low toxicity, low VOC and low odour formulas, these sealants boast high-end, architectural performance at competitive prices. The products offer solutions to trades’ everyday jobs and consistently deliver value and performance.” BMJ
