HOW TO REGISTER WITH THE PALLET LOOP

The Pallet LOOP offers two collection service options:
trips through the supply chain. Following a standardised design, our pallets are typically stronger and easier to lift and stack than standard white pallets. At the other end, we’ve put a nationwide pallet collection service in place, that will give registered returnees – e.g., merchants – up to £4 for each LOOP pallet we collect from them. As well as picking up our green LOOP pallets, we will also take away any white pallets that branches have accumulated.”
While the LOOP PayBack is an incentive – rewarding best practice – Lewis says
that it’s also an acknowledgement of the role merchants will play in making this circular solution a success. “With LOOP, the opportunities for timber, carbon, waste, and cost savings are enormous – but we knew from the start we’d need all parts of the supply chain engaged to deliver a truly holistic solution. For that to happen, our model had to be equitable – delivering sustainability and financial benefits for everyone. There have been deposit-based pallet reuse schemes in the past that have failed to get off the ground in a big way as they’ve been too complex to administer. We originally considered going down this route, but after consulting the sector, it was clear that a cashback incentive was the way forward. Put the LOOP PayBack together with the waste cost savings on offer and you get an immediate financial upside for anyone using our service – plus all the associated environmental benefits.” Lewis adds:: “Since British Gypsum made its announcement, the feedback we’ve been getting from all parts of the sector is hugely encouraging. Everyone seems ready to do things differently when it comes to pallets. We are also talking to other building material manufacturers, who are keen to follow British Gypsum’s lead. We’ve been saying for ages that change is coming in relation to pallets. Now it’s really happening. So, whatever you do, from this point onwards, don’t throw away pallets – particularly green ones. ¡ A 72-hour service: For branches that want to get rid of pallets quickly, this rapid collection service comes with a £100 call out charge per collection. There is no additional charge for collecting green LOOP pallets, but there is a £2 charge for every white pallet collected, which works out significantly cheaper than putting pallets in wood skips*. There are no minimum collection quantities on this service. ¡ A 10-day service: For branches and distribution centres with more storage space, The Pallet LOOP offers a 10-day collection service. With this option, there is no call out charge, but there is a minimum collection quantity of 50 pallets (green and white). As with the 72-hour service, green LOOP pallets are collected for free and a charge of £2 per pallet applies for every white pallet collected.
