GREEN BY NAME, GREEN BY NATURE


Lime Green has completed an investment to boost its energy efficiencies across its facilities, as Will McGill finds out.

elebrating its 21st anniversary this year, lime plaster, render and mortar supplier Lime Green has invested £500,000 in its facilities to make it more


efficient and sustainable.


Managing director Simon Ayres, says: “Over the last 20 odd years we have evolved, we now provide a wide range of product across many different categories..


“At the start we would mainly supply our materials to churches, castles and listed buildings as well as solid walled buildings. This is not a small market - around nine million solid wall buildings in the UK are built with lime stone, so our products are needed so those historical buildings remain structurally sound and can be around for generations. “Over time, we developed a range of products all of which we manufacturer here in Shropshire. We have become increasingly sophisticated and this investment has brought us one step further.”

The company has supplied its products to a number of projects, including Lambeth Council which used its Warmshell product.


Ayres explains that Lime Green has continually looked to decrease its environmental footprint through improving its supply chain but also by educating people about the environmental good its products do for the environment and, more importantly, the planet. Lime Green’s Ultra Insulating Plaster System was designed for retrofits and it is made entirely out of recycled foamed glass as the aggregate so there’s no sand in it and its lightweight. “We also have solar panels on the roofs of our sites and so we generate a fair amount of energy that way,” explains Ayres. “We are also trying to cut down on the waste we produce through our packaging but it can be hard because of existing supply options are limited by existing demand and its difficult for us to influence that but we do try our best to push our sustainable options. “Being more sustainable is something that is really important to all of us. This is an external wall insulation system which wraps around the exterior walls of masonry or timber frame buildings and it is energy efficient, comfortable and healthy to live in. As well as locking heat in during the winter, it can also keep homes cooler during the summer months. It does this with its Warmshell Woodfibre – which exploits the natural ability of wood to store heat, meaning that unlike synthetic insulations it protects your customers from summer overheating.


Warmshell also allows walls to “breathe”, allowing trapped moisture to escape. This prevents condensation, avoids damp and makes the insulation more effective.


It is also manufactured in the UK, cutting down on emissions and its wood fibre insulations panels are sourced from sustainable European forests certified to FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) standards.


It is tested under ETAG 004 (European Technical Agreement Guidelines), and has been independently monitored by (SPAB), the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. Additionally, the company’s expertise is showcased through its involvement in the restoration of iconic landmarks such as the Tower of London. n
