LEADERSHIP SKILLS
seeking feedback from others. “We teach the art of seeking feedback, including getting individuals ready for feedback, before using a measurement tool that quickly gets to the route cause of what can be bio hacked in order to tap into clarity, confidence and control over the decisions being made.
“When an organisation works with us through this programme we look at their people as a group, and then take it down to the individual level. We want people to understand what is driving their decisions. Unless they understand how they operate, they can’t understand what’s working and what’s not working. They identify their limitations and strengths, then understand what environment engages and inspires them, so they can be clear about the trigger points where they are not in a optimum decision making mindset.”
Goal awareness
The programme first establishes what the organisation is aiming to achieve, where it currently sits in relation to that, and where, therefore, there are likely to be gaps and challenges. Once those have been identified with the executive team, and the development and pathway prioritised, the programme then starts to work on developing the decision- making skills using bio-hacking techniques. Burrows says: “Once they have clarity around what the organisation needs to achieve, we identify where there are opportunities to improve decision making, and then use bio- hacking techniques to align future decision to the outcomes of the organisation. This takes a completely different approach to a retreat or one day education programme, which often just dumps information without any idea of how this aligns to the goals of the organisation and what leaders needs to do with the content shared. So the questions we have to ask is which one percent do you need to work on, what are you trying to achieve, and what are your capabilities at the moment, what are you not good at, and out of that, what is going
to have the biggest positive impact on your organisation. These questions allow us to prioritise just a couple of tasks for each person, which are likely to be completely different for each person.”
The programme works with individuals, looking at and their particular decision-making skills or gaps that need to be worked on to achieve the stated aims. Working with each individual executive raises the bar for everyone on the team.
She explains that successful organisations need four key strategies that will be successful based on the decision being made. There four areas include: 1) Trust: every level of management working together as this filters into the clients and suppliers. They need to create high levels of trust, the ability to resolve conflict and build a unified team. 2) Strategic Execution: There must be people on board to drive the strategy, and a level of organisation with systems, rules and processes in place so that people are held accountable, and are more results driven.
“As an organisation you need to measure how aligned you are with what you are trying to achieve, and be able to implement a clear structure, not only for management and employees to follow, but also the clients. 3) Take Action: You need people who will take action, be resilient and willing to make a change. And finally 4) Innovation: you need to be continuously looking for ways to improve processes and procedures, challenge what is working and not working, and be on the lookout for new opportunities to stay ahead of the competition.
“As we all have different ways of digesting information and reacting. Some people will naturally be better at operating in these four areas, people who are high on connecting will naturally be good at building trust, high planners will be good with strategic execution, high doers will be willing to take action when others hold back and high thinkers will be the innovators. that their senior executive team can tap into these four areas, as such, bio-hacking helps individuals develop decision making capabilities in all four areas so they become truly great at guiding the business.”
Decision making
Burrows says that part of the process includes full debriefs with the individuals and with them team. “We include within that education on how to run teams effectively and how to make powerful decisions. She states that ‘the art of decision making is important as the wrong decision’ costs time and therefore money, it can set an organization back from achieving it goals. Working with us is a process, where we can come back at certain points for debriefing, helping the senior executive team stay on track for short and long term success. We also leave materials and training on how to filter this information into the workforce, in a time and cost effective manner, taking bio-hacking to the complete workforce, this is when the real magic takes place. Then of course we constantly measure and remeasure, to show how the dial has been shifted and the impact this has on achieving organisational goals.
“In summary, what we do is improve the decision making capabilities and therefore performance of the executive team, improving their capabilities in a way that is seamless, inspiring and non threatening, and balance this new level of awareness to the desired outcomes of the organization so that you have clarity, confidence and control over every decision being made.
