TIMBER ON THE FENCE BMJ cuts into fencing’s 2025 developments B

irkdale has released its new DuraPost Commercial Reflective Acoustic Fencing. An ideal solution for both commercial and residential

applications that require effective noise reduction, the robust and reflective fencing offers a sound reduction of 27dB, which has been tested to and complies with BS EN 1793- 2:2018.

The fencing system is built using Birkdale’s Commercial DuraPosts, which are manufactured from cold rolled pre-galvanised steel, combined with tongue and groove reflective acoustic timber boards and rubber acoustic seals.

John Abernethie, managing director at Birkdale, commented: “Noise pollution is a challenge for many communities and high on the agenda for new housing developments to address.

“Our new DuraPost Commercial Reflective Acoustic Fencing is an ideal solution for busy, built-up urban areas or alongside roads to help protect neighbouring homes and businesses. By utilising our highly durable DuraPosts fence posts– installations are easy to undertake, reduce noise, and will look fantastic for many years to come.”

The acoustic timber boards are made from 70% PEFC Certified 225mm x 47mm slow- grown redwood, which is highly durable and resistant to decay. Due to its slow growth, the redwood contains tight growth rings, denser wood fibres and fewer knots, contributing to improved strength, stability and quality. Meanwhile, landscaping specialist Talasey is rolling out its new collection of slatted fencing, which is increasing the size of its Piranha range of responsibly sourced composite decking, fencing and cladding solutions. The composite slatted fencing is an innovative new system that comes in three core colours: Black Carbon, Brown Cedar and Antique Grey. The first two have been available to order but now that Antique Grey has come into stock, that completes the collection, and the award-wnning Scunthorpe-based company is busy rolling out the range to its merchant customers and showcasing the system to

landscapers and garden designers. The introduction of slatted fencing is an important addition to the Piranha range to meet growing demand for composite alternatives to the traditional timber options used for decking, fencing and cladding. Product and training director Lavinia Dowson said the use of composite solutions as part of landscaping projects is snowballing. “Composite decking, fencing and cladding solutions are growing in popularity for two main reasons: they look stunning and they will remain in peak condition as a key feature of any landscaping project for years to come because of their durability,” said Lavinia. “Demand for composite products continues to grow, and the slatted fencing is the perfect complement to our decking and cladding ranges – especially because the availability of different colourways means that homeowners

really can create incredible outdoor living spaces.”

“Our fully capped range is made from a combination of recycled HDPE plastics and FSC® certified hardwood timber, creating a high- quality, long-life product that will outperform traditional timber products.”

She also added that a key feature of the slatted panels is that they fit perfectly into pre- existing concrete posts, meaning: • hassle-free installation – because there’s no need to remove old posts (saving time and money). • a quick upgrade - as homeowners can instantly refresh and modernise outdoor spaces. • available as dual-sided panels – so it’s a win- win with the neighbours, enhancing the look of concrete posts on both sides. • easy Installation – which makes it the perfect choice for both DIYers and landscapers, ensuring a hassle-free installation. The slats are fully capped for additional protection, and each displays an enhanced slatted woodgrain finish on both sides – guaranteed to add a durable, stylish and affordable feature to any home. Lavinia summed up by saying: “Talasey’s slatted fencing system will allow homeowers to effortlessly insert the system into their existing concrete posts without the need for any additional channels, offering you all the benefits of a composite fence without the hassle of removing and replacing your existing posts. “It really is as simple as 1, 2, 3. 1 - remove your existing wooden fence panel. 2 - fix your bottom trim and slot in the

tongue and groove Piranha slatted fencing, to your desired height. And 3 - secure your top trim.” BMJ
