BHETA Held Second Q & A on International Freight
The British Home Enhancement Trade Association (BHETA) held a second question and answer session on the topical issue of international freight, following the popularity of the first one back in March. Again, the event enabled members to discuss the cost and administrative challenges that have followed on from Covid and BREXIT. It featured Carolyn Hough, Business Development Manager
from Dachser, the BHETA Business Service Provider which specialises in logistics for SMEs. Questions were taken on: duty, customs rates, freight costs, trading with Ireland and the requirement for a separate entity, rules of Origin, VAT Registrations, authorised representatives / Importer records, incoterms (DAP / DDP) – the series of pre-defined international commercial terms published by the International Chamber
of Commerce (ICC) relating to international commercial law. BHETA marketing manager,
Steve Richardson explained, “This is a topic which is adversely affecting very many businesses in the home improvement and home enhancement sector. Carolyn was tremendously helpful at the last event and I urge BHETA members to take the opportunity to attend.”
The British Home Enhancement Trade Association (BHETA) held another of its popular webinars, and will be welcoming Alan Roper, Managing Director of Blue Diamond as the speaker. The event took place on Tuesday 15th June at 10.30 am. Alan presented an update on the garden centre group’s trading performance, strategic direction and future plans, as well as looking at consumer and garden centre retail trends. He will also outline specific opportunities for suppliers. Blue Diamond is now one of the UK’s largest garden centre groups having acquired seventeen garden centres from Wyevale in 2018 and 2019. They now trade from 40 locations and posted revenue of over £180m in 2019. Chief Operating Officer of BHETA, Will Jones commented, “I’m delighted that BHETA can secure fantastic garden industry speakers like Alan Roper and I know there will be a great turn out to hear him talk about Blue Diamond’s plans. I hope all interested suppliers will book as soon as possible.”

increasing by 240% to €105M with over 4 million sessions. The company now has an average of 50 million unique visitors per month to its website and seven million active customers. Europe-wide sales increased by 100% to £1.2 billion in 2020. Mano Mano is a selective marketplace pure player, which means it selects its partners carefully (ie not just anyone can sign up) to ensure a quality offer for customers. On the UK platform, 75% of sellers are based in the UK. Digital penetration of the market in the UK is currently at 21%, which means that the opportunity to grow is significant.
To support its growth plans Mano Mano is to introduce additional services to support its growing seller base and to help with raising and growing awareness as well as making further investment into UK marketing, including TV advertising.
Commenting on the event,
BHETA’s Chief Operating Officer, Will Jones, “This was a great opportunity to speak directly to a hugely growing force in retail and one which is looking to grow. A pioneer of the online model in DIY, Mano Mano is looking to expand further.”

The British Home Enhancement Trade Association (BHETA) welcomed Claire Fletcher, Category Manager at Ocado who presented a virtual forum to members on May 19th at 10.30. The online grocery retailer opened its first international customer fulfilment centres during the last year and its first Ocado Zoom micro site in west London ahead of schedule, with a further dozen sites planned within the M25 to support the group’s growth plans and ambition of ‘changing the way the world shops.’
Commenting on the forthcoming event,
BHETA’s Chief Operating Officer, Will Jones, “This was a great opportunity to speak directly to a hugely growing force in retail and a pioneer of the online model.”
