healthy living Healthy and Hydrated for 2021

Now summer has hit and some of the chaos of our old life is creeping back in, it’s important to still make time to stay on top of looking after ourselves. Making time to cook some healthy meals and keep hydrated is important as we enjoy the summer. Housewares talk to Klean Kanteen UK about how their reusable, stainless- steel food solutions and drinkware are perfect for keeping us healthy on the go.

D

uring 2020, the pandemic affected every aspect of life, including people’s diets. The amazing banana bread baking obsession aside, it was hard to eat healthy when stuck inside. With some sense of normality returning, a new focus on health and well-being is on the agenda as people try to maximise looking after themselves following the pandemic. An increase in plant-based diets and foods that support a healthy immune system is being seen in 2021, as people look to keep even the smallest colds and bugs at bay. Lots more attention is being paid to roles that specific ingredients play in improving overall health and well-being.

With this in mind, the trend of meal

preparation to take control of what we are consuming and eating, may look to increase in 2021. One easy way to make sure you’re eating healthy meals is to batch cook for throughout the week, even if it’s just to take with you back to the office. One great product to help with this is The TKCanisters from Klean Kanteen to keep your food hot up to 11 hours. Perfect for putting a delicious, home cooked meal in, to make returning to the office slightly easier! No messing about, just un-screw the lid with a quarter turn and enjoy.

Drinking lots of water and staying hydrated is also a massive factor in helping your body stay healthy – the average adult should drink over 2 litres of water a day. Doing this, whilst juggling a busy schedule can be very hard. One of the best solutions we find is throwing a leakproof,

reusable bottle in your bag so it is always available. Dehydration can cause headaches and a drop in energy levels, so if you want to make the most of your days in 2021, staying on top of your water intake is really key. Phil Elwood, managing director at Klean Kanteen UK comments on the importance of living a healthy and sustainable lifestyle: “Living a healthy lifestyle now also means considering the environmental and sustainable aspects of your choices,” he says. “By using products from a sustainable, climate neutral company such as Klean Kanteen, you are making a conscious choice and commitment to live a better, ‘kleaner’ lifestyle. “Another key factor we are seeing affecting

people’s food choice is the environmental and climate aspect of food production. For example, diets may now involve a lower intake of animal products but not eliminate them,” says Phil. “We’ve already seen this with many people choosing to not purchase products containing palm oil, due to the massive negative impacts on tropical rainforests and wildlife.” Shopping locally and supporting small businesses is a massive focus for 2021 to aid their recovery after numerous lockdowns. Shopping at local greengrocers or markets for UK grown vegetables, alongside purchasing fresh fish and meat from your local fishmonger and butcher, is a great way to eat healthily and support your community of small businesses. It also means the transportation and carbon emissions for these food items is miniscule in

comparison, with produce that is flown in from various countries around the world. Sourcing ingredients locally is something to

really consider if you’re making a conscious decision to stay on top of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle in 2021. With plastic-free reusable storage containers, you can shop at zero waste stores for a wide range of food produce. You can easily get cereals, grains, dried fruits and nuts alongside your baking essentials (to continue with the banana bread obsession) plus much more.

“Living healthy is all about making easy swaps and choices to fit our existing lifestyle, nobody wants it to be a chore,” continues Phil. “So, sourcing fresh produce, rich in nutrients, will both help you in making sure you’re feeding your body and immune system correctly alongside helping you cut down on the large volume of single-use plastic seen in supermarkets, and support local businesses.” There’s one simple rule when trying to keep

on top of eating healthily; know what you’re putting in your body. By cooking from scratch and taking meals with you for lunches when not at home, you’re avoiding having to buy mass produced ready-to-go food that is often high in fats, salt, sugar and artificial flavourings. Every little change helps and helps to empower you to stay on top of making healthy choices in life, so by starting simple and spending more time cooking home-made meals and drinking water, you’ll soon feel the health benefits of looking after your body.
