the big interview A Weekend Spectacular

Harts of Stur marketing manager Jon Dart reflects on an eventful two days at the store - and a very special night for the business and Philip Hart

H

arts of Stur at Sturminster Newton in Dorset opened its doors on Saturday September 14 and Sunday September 15 for its annual Open Weekend, which coincided with the Sturminster Newton Cheese Festival.

A combination of glorious weather and the

town’s annual cheese festival saw record numbers converge on the store to take advantage of a range of offers specially curated for the weekend.

Another big attraction (in every sense) was a giant KitchenAid mixer on display. Visitors were encouraged to have a selfie taken with the monster machine which entered them into a competition to win a KitchenAid hand blender. The Open Weekend also included a series of

product demonstrations to entertain and educate visitors. On Saturday, the wine glass company Riedel hosted a wine tasting experience to show how having the correct glass can enhance the flavour and enjoyment of your wine. Coffee experts Sage were on hand to impart their knowledge on how to make cafe quality coffee at home using their range of espresso coffee machines.

Malcolm Harradine demonstrated a host of Judge and Stellar products

KitchenAid also had their normal size mixers on display and showcased some of the key accessories that make this iconic machine so much more than just a mixer. Meanwhile, some of Horwood’s finest Judge and Stellar electricals were put through their paces by the incomparable Malcolm Harradine [guest QVC guest presenter and professional in- store kitchenware demonstrator and product tester], who was back by popular demand.

Always entertaining and informative, Mal had a great rapport with his audience who got to taste some of his delicious creations.

A rewarding evening I

t was a proud and emotional night for us on September 19 at the Blackmore Vale Business Awards 2019. Organised by Blackmore Vale Media and held at The George

Albert Hotel near Dorchester, the Awards celebrated the finest businesses and individuals in the region. The evening started on a high as Harts of Stur was announced the winner of the Family Business of the Year Award. But the highlight came when Philip Hart accepted the Lifetime

Achievement Award, whilst receiving a standing ovation from the packed venue. He was bestowed with this prestigious honour for his contribution

to business in the region over the last 40 years, and was presented with an engraved cut crystal vase. The award reflects the vision that Philip brought to a then, small

town agricultural business, and for the work he has subsequently done, and the support he’s offered (both for and through our business) to the local community and perhaps his staff most of all. It was an apt and timely accolade for Philip with 2019 being such a landmark year for Harts of Stur. With the family company celebrating its 100th anniversary, Philip has deemed it the perfect time to relinquish his custodianship of the business, leaving it in the safe hands of his sons Graham and Johnathan and the new management team.
