According to John Lewis & Partners sales data, the following products soared in popularity with the department store group’s shoppers this year


Reusable Water Bottles+15%


Glastonbury returned and, for the first time, the event banned single-use plastic. Many festivalgoers brought reusable bottles and John Lewis saw sales increase 15% the week before the festival. One bottle may not be enough: customers are purchasing a range of sizes and styles for their gym bags, commutes, desksand handbags.


Portable Cutlery +176%


More mindful than ever of the damage that plastic does to the environment, customers chose to cut down on their plastic use. Within the last year, John Lewis has launched collapsible coffee cups, reusable travel cutlery and reusable beeswax sandwich wrappers.


Reusable Straws +1573%


With a forthcoming ban on the sale of plastic straws, customers are embracing the change and opting for eco-friendly, stainless steel reusable straws.


Smart Doorbells+51% Botanical Plants +43%


Customers continue to bring mindfulness into their homes with botanical house plants blooming in popularity when it comes to reconnecting to nature.


Increasingly, customers want the ability to receive instant alerts when someone rings the doorbell and speak to visitors from their smartphones. John Lewis grew its home monitoring range by 20% this year, as clever new solutions entered the market to help customers keep an eye on their homes, wherever they are.


Wide-Leg Culottes+51% The Contemporary Hair Styler


15,000 The Dyson Airwrap applies jets of air to style hair into curls, waves and blow dries without the need for extreme heat, leaving customers increasingly confident about styling their hair at home. Since its launch last October, it has captivated customers and was a must-have gift for Christmas 2018 with over 15,000 sold.
