Examples include a loaf tin (£2.99), cake tin (£6.99) and flan tin (£5.99). The retailer has also added the new Joseph Joseph Duo (£4.49-£33.74) collection to its offer. Robert Dyas was founded in 1872 and was bought by entrepreneur Theo Paphitis in 2012. The company has over 90 stores, mainly in the south of England, and also operates 24-hours a day online.

BRC calls for action on card fees

The latest Payment Survey from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) shows that credit card spending overtook cash spending in 2018. Debit cards remain the most popular method of payment, accounting for almost three-in- five transactions.

BRC said: ‘The use of cash

payments has been falling steadily. Over the past five years, cash use has dropped from over half of all transactions in 2013 to under 40% in 2018. The value of those cash transactions has fallen from 28% to 20% during the same period.

‘Nonetheless, cash remains an important part of retail, particularly for many vulnerable people, and we are working to ensure the long- term viability of ATMs and reduce barriers that prevent many businesses from offering cashback to customers. ‘Card costs continue to rise

as retailers spent £1.3 billion with third parties, up £70 million from 2017. Each transaction costs retailers an average of 5.85 pence per transaction.

Thermos UK teams up with homeless charity

Portable insulated food and drink container manufacturer Thermos UK has teamed up with a homeless charity in Leeds to provide flasks for hot drinks to keep rough sleepers warm during the colder nights. As homelessness in the

West Yorkshire region reaches record highs, Thermos UK wanted to make

a contribution. As a Leeds- based business, Thermos UK approached Simon on the Streets - an independent, local charity offering emotional and practical support on an outreach basis to rough sleepers across Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield - to see how it could help. Both parties quickly

realised that there was an opportunity to provide rough sleepers with a flask that could be regularly refilled to keep a drink hot for up to 18 hours. Bearing in mind that many rough sleepers move around day to day, Thermos

Addis donates to animal rescue centre

Addis is a Pet Care Aware Family and was recently introduced to the work of the Diana Brimblecombe Animal Rescue Centre (DBARC) near Wokingham in Berkshire. Addis was involved in a promotion during National Pet Month, which ran from April 1 to May 6, to help support and raise awareness for DBARC. The housewares company has also donated £1,000 to the 'In Memory of Susie-Belle' appeal to help build a new rehabilitation unit which ‘helps dogs rescued from the squalid conditions of puppy farms adjust to a normal life with the help of simple everyday things like sofas and TVs. ‘It’s also a great place for the staff and

volunteers to spend valuable time with these traumatised dogs to teach them that humans can be kind, before they move on to their forever homes.’
