10 years ago this month in Housewares Magazine…
• WMF’s pull through ceramic knife sharpeners, Eddingtons’ Poach Perfect silicone egg poachers, Oxo Good Grips’ potato ricers and Kuhn Rikon’s Colori coloured paring knives were the best-selling products at Artisan Cookshop in Truro, Countryside Cookware in Kelso, Kitchen Kapers in Camberley and Kooks Unlimited in Richmond respectively.
• Housewares Magazine’s Mystery Shopper visited Brent Cross Shopping Centre in north-west London on the morning before Bonfire Night and voted Fenwick the winner of a survey of the retail destination’s housewares retailers. It beat John Lewis and Lakeland for its ‘great Christmassy atmosphere and lots of new products’.
• CellarDine founder and managing director Peter Dunne pulled off a publicity coup on the BBC when he was invited onto Chris Evans’ Radio 2 Drivetime Show to discuss the development of his Rouge 02 electronic wine breather. The programme reviewed the original and stainless steel model, together with
the new Pocket Rouge 02. Chris thought the product ‘a real winner’.
• The housewares industry turned out in force on November 12 to celebrate at Britain’s Best Retailer Awards 2009, organised by Housewares Magazine,
www.HousewaresLive.net and sister title DIY Week. The accolades included Best Cookshop (won jointly by Le Lievres in Jersey and Cook To Perfection in King’s Lynn), Best Retail Website (won by Lakeland), Best Multiple Housewares Retailer (won by Lakeland) and Best Independent Department Store (won by Camp Hopson in Newbury).
• Homeware company BlissHome announced the launch of the Hairy Bikers Kitchen Kit of Parts.
