BIM being one of them – upskilling within the constructor sector as it relates to BIM is not being driven by regulation, it is being driven by the contracting community.
Contractors are realising the project efficiency and security gains of a well-trained and skill- resilient workforce and they need partners to work alongside them who understand their needs at every stage of the project lifecycle. At Victaulic, we believe that manufacturers have a role to play in the upskilling of the c onstruction workforce and partner with contractors, owners and engineers to drive training programmes to that end. Despite these clear benefits, many
suppliers do not get involved in the training of contractors and engineers using their products. But as new technology continues to be developed, and the way in which we work c ontinues to adapt, the importance of preparing and equipping the construction workforce with necessary con temporary skills has never been more real. For workers, contractors and customers alike, upskilling the workforce will also equip the construction industry with the necessary resilience and opportunity to thrive in the future.

o ensure there is complete satisfaction with our products, we are involved from day one and offer Virtual Design and
Construction (VDC) training, including sessions for engineers and designers, on how to install our products for every project we’re involved in.
As part of our holistic VDC training we provide hands-on sessions to empower and educate engineers throughout a project’s lifecycle. Recent training from our VDC team taught engineers to design a mechanical room from line drawings to a BIM model in Revit. Other topics which our courses address include dividing layouts and projects in zones, clash detections, and developing material lists, among others. Every worker who attends one of our sessions receives training certification to acknowledge wwwtheir participation and to grant assurance that they have been equipped with the knowledge to properly install our products.
We currently run a Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) raining for grooved piping systems; and we
train
are also currently working on a contractor c ertification programme in the UK, with the first session due to take place in the near future.
We also see the value in extending our training facilities and sharing our industry knowledge beyond our direct customers, including with governmental services. VDAB (Vlaamse Dienst voor Arbeidsbemiddeling – the Flemish Employment Agency) is a Flemish governmental service which unites potential employers an d employees, with its underlying goal to help the unemployed find work. To achieve this, they offer skills training to equip people for job placement.
Previously, they have trained people on traditional pipe-joining methods, namely welding and flanging, but for a number of years they used Victaulic’s products for training people on grooved pipe joining. We have since created a Victaulic training c ourse on installing our products an d have educated their trainers in our facility in Belgium, so that they can correctly pass on what they have learnt and teach prospective workers how to install our prod ucts.
