SUPERMARKET REFRIGERATION

Co-op Mid- counties benefi ts from Bond

4-Seven Cooling was asked by The Midcounties Co-operative (MCC) to look at the logistics of replacing the current open fronted chilled display cabinets on the shopfl oor at MCC Middleton Cheney due to continued failures of the plant and the uncertain reliability of the current chilled cabinets that were inherited when the store was originally acquired.

Typically this would be relatively simple to achieve but on the initial scoping meeting with MCC it was discovered that a power upgrade for the whole site was essential before any replacement works could be carried out. However, once this was completed the initial design process could begin with both cabinet and plant manufactures. MCC’s request to 24-Seven Cooling was that it wished to opt for an ETL listed product that would show reduced energy consumption (kwh/24) compared to its current range of closed door refrigerated cabinets within its stores.

As a current cabinet supplier to MCC the Bond Group’s new Eco-

Lichfi eld fi tted the bill with a total energy reduction of 43% (kwh/24) plus added bonuses of an increased TDA of 4.5%, shelf capacity increase of 13%, extraction rate decrease of 24% and also the evaporating temperature decrease of 30%.

Serviceability was also key in the decision making to assist engineers in reducing PPM time on site and allowing small sections to be de- merchandised as required.

A total of four 2500mm cabinets were required for this particular project in which 24-Seven Cooling was able to off er a complete design package for new external refrigeration plant that not only suited our customers’ needs with signifi cant energy savings of 43% ensuring a signifi cantly reduced payback period.

Using the reduced extraction rates of the new Eco Lichfi eld cabinets directly and substantially reduced the size of new external refrigeration plant, which off ered the customer and 24-Seven Cooling more fl exibility of positioning/locating new external refrigeration plant. The site in question was a residential site with private dwelling surrounding the store so noise limitations and location of plant was a real concern in the design process due to the tight restraints of the existing refrigeration plant that was operational at the time. 24-Seven Cooling managed to handover the project on time and in budget to MCC thanks to the on-site installation teams as well as the MCC designated building contractor who ensured any building works and door/window removals were completed in good time and maintained a close working relationship with The Bond Group. The Bond Group’s in-house design centre based in Sheerness have been working tirelessly throughout the winter to bring to market their
