SKILLcard renewals now a vaila ble online
H
olders of Engineering Services SKILLcards are now able to renew their cards online following
another upgrade of the online SKILLcard application system operated by the
Building Engineering Services Association (BESA).
The application process for new SKILLcards moved online earlier this year and the website (
www.skillcard.org. uk) has now been further enhanced to accommodate renewals.
More than 60,000 people working in the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration sectors hold the Engineering Services SKILLcard. It provides evidence that they have the required training and q ualifications for the type of work they carry out on construction sites.
BESA took the SKILLcard process online following a survey of the sector, which showed that more than 75% of card holders would prefer to apply and renew online.
Engineering Services SKILLcard was the first of the Construction Skills
Certification Scheme (CSCS) Partner card schemes to go ‘smart’ easing the process of updating the holder’s qualifications and making it simpler and quicker for site managers to check skills and prevent potential fraud.
“The response to our online application service has been really encouraging with users describing it as fast, easy to use and convenient,” said Rachel Davidson, director of certification at BESA. “After a rigorous testing process, we are now able to offer renewals online as well, which I hope our users will find equally helpful.” The CSCS Partner schemes, such as
SKI LLcard, are playing a crucial role in th e government’s 2025 Construction Industry Strategy by helping clients check whether workers have the right qualifications for the job in hand and have suitable health and safety training..
IOR regional events for members
T
he IOR is continuing to increase its presence with five events organised by branches before the end of the year.
IOR will be hosting two Cool Talk breakfast briefings for service engineers and technicians, one taking place in Basingstoke on 9 October, the other in Bristol on 12 November.
The Northern branch will be holding its annual dinn er on 24 October in Newcastle, while the IOR Scotland is holding a seminar on 30 October in Aberdeen and its annual dinner on 14 November in Glasgow.
Commenting on the IOR’s increasing regional presence, Miriam Rodway, chief executive of the IOR, said: “The trustees made a commitment to organise more local events this year following feedback from our members that they wanted to make more contacts locally. We are delighted that these have been very well supported by members and by the industry. “We are very fortunate to h ave a stron g team of committed members in our branches who have great relationships with companies. Having a regional programme of events has helped the IOR to address needs for technical input and networking across the country.”
