Vending grapples with coronavirus crisis


The Automatic Vending Association (AVA) has issued some advice to members who are currently having to make, in some cases, “very difficult decisions” about their businesses. Foremost on members’ minds has been the Coronavirus Job


Retention Scheme; how it works; who is eligible; and whether the furlough process can work on a rota basis. By the end of March, the impact on vending business in the UK and


across Europe had been varied with the level of business disruption ranging from 25 per cent up to 90 per cent. AVA chief executive David Llewellyn who took part in a conference


call with national association heads from around Europe said that within the UK the impact depended very much on the focus of the operating business. Those involved in business and industry (around 70 per cent of AVA members) were being impacted more severely as a result of offices closing and people working from home. These changes have meant that some operators are having to make use of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and put some of their teams on furlough. Others have business in the NHS, government offices, hospitals,


AVA COVID-19: subscription holiday


To support members who are paying in instalments, The Automatic Vending Association (AVA) is offering a subscription holiday, during the coronavirus crisis. For those companies who wish to benefit and apply, there will be a three-month pause in AVA subscriptions from April 2020 to June 2020. • To apply, members should email Penny.Rowell@the- ava.com confirming their interest


• For those paying in instalments, these will be suspended through April, May & June and they will restart July/Aug/Sep to settle the full subscription balance. The applicable period will be reviewed as the COVID-19 situation progresses.
