that their machines can accept the most popular cashless payment methods, whether via credit card, mobile app or prepaid card. VMC’s Laura Barwell adds: “If you’re looking to bring vending and
catering services together on one payment platform then our closed-user system can do this, with the added benefits of detailed customer data, options for loyalty, a mobile app and much more.”

argue that we have now reached the end of the current round of development of payment options with standard vending machines and can now only make real change once we remove the vending controller and replace it with a PC. “Improvement may be achieved once the soon to be delivered 5G is in place. However, until then it seems we are just tweaking with what is offered rather than making any significant changes. “We have explored cards, mobile phones, wrist bands and all types of contactless technology, but wouldn’t it be useful if we could harness the true potential of these to sell a different range of products and services?” “This to my mind requires a mindset change and a machine that can interact with its customers. Added to this if the customer can interact with the machine and take advantage of immediate discounts or incentives to use, we will open up and make vending a true merchandiser of products, not just a receptacle for known items.”
