sustainability within product developments.
SH: Do you believe the UK consumers are diff erent to others in Europe? DP:Mainland Europe and the UK are not too dissimilar. Though there is some unique diff erences. This is very much apparent in the sales of Double Ovens and Dryers of which are a much more desirable in the UK. Plus, the independent retailer plays a major part in the whole selling process of MDA’s having invested in well-presented, welcoming showrooms and knowledgeable staff to provide consumer satisfaction. However, it’s not just the selling process but
having experienced technical staff for installation is also attributed to the skills of the UK’s independent retailer. Dare I say, whilst there is a passion for cooking in
several parts of Europe, the UK has a passion for an aesthetically appealing kitchen, to accompany the passion for a wide variety of food tastes, cooking methods and entertaining in general.
SH: With the rapid change in technology, do you see Haier introducing everything electrical for the home? DP:Technology has changed rapidly over the past few years and continues to do so. This is why Haier is looking at incorporating IoT [Internet of Things] into all its products. Partnering with professionals in the fi elds of IoT/ AI, such advanced technology has enabled the integration of suitable modules within its products. As such, this has allowed the Haier Group to
design, develop, manufacture and sell smart MDAs [Major Domestic Appliances] and SDAs (Small Domestic Appliances). Its affi liate company, Haier Electronics Group manufactures CE [Consumer Electronics] including televisions, computers and mobile phones. At Haier Group’s showcase at IFA, there was a dedicated area for TVs. The group is currently building plans for a potential launch in the UK.
SH: Regarding Smart technology and connected appliances, will Haier be introducing cordless products for the induction powered kitchen? DP:As we are all aware, technology changes rapidly and Haier has to be at the forefront of evolving solutions for consumer benefi t. We are aware of a wireless power consortium currently exploring to set global standards for cordless kitchen appliances. Agreed, this concept relates to some benefi ts
for the consumer, eliminating the mess and inconvenience of power cords in the kitchen as appliances would be using a magnetic induction system, similar to wirelessly charging your phone, only at much higher power levels – up to 2.2kW- enough to power any kitchen appliance. Right now, there isn’t plans to introduce this.
There are several challenges to overcome with such a global standard being set and Haier will continue to monitor its progress.
SH: With the ongoing cost-of-living crisis not improving, do you think consumers
purchasing fi rst-time or replacement products will be looking more for sustainability or benefi cial cost? DP:We are all aware of the many elements considered during the purchasing process. The independent retailer is front line with many dilemmas, daily. Initial cost, appearance, reliability, guarantee, delivery, installation, and running costs. From design to manufacture, cost, safety, quality, durability and sustainability are paramount with all products. Producing sustainable benefi ts throughout the process from the product itself to the price range provides the consumer with all the benefi ts.
Obviously, cost is of major importance to many, if not all and I would hope the vast majority of consumers will also be environmentally conscious during their purchases. In terms of sustainability, we are always conscious of providing extra benefi ts to consumers and sustainability. They are the pillars of Haier UK and Haier as a whole.
