MDA: Sustainable Refrigeration A

s you will read from the following, Louise clearly explains Liebherr’s

stance with its products and continued support for the independent retailers and their customers. For independent electrical retailers, sustainability conversations are moving beyond a simple question of energy labels. Customers want appliances that help manage household running costs and environmental impact, but are unwilling to sacrifice the space, flexibility and design that modern kitchens demand. Refrigeration is central to this conversation; as an appliance operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, efficient performance matters. That creates an opportunity for retailers.

Rather than seeing capacity and sustainability as competing priorities, retailers can help customers understand how the right appliance supports both. Larger households, changing shopping habits, batch cooking and home entertaining all increase the need for usable storage. Better organisation and longer-lasting freshness can help households make more of the food they buy. This is where a wider choice of refrigeration appliances matters. One example is Liebherr’s new Prime XXL fully integrated fridge-freezer, the ICBNbi 7663, which shows how increased capacity can be delivered alongside energy efficiency. Offering 349 litres of volume, around 100 litres more cooling space than a regular integrated appliance, it achieves energy efficiency class B. Designed for a 194-195cm high, 71-72cm wide niche, it gives retailers a high-capacity option for customers who want additional storage without compromising on energy efficiency. Capacity is only one element of a more sustainable refrigeration choice. Technologies such as Liebherr’s BioFresh create tailored conditions close to 0°C for fruit and vegetables, meat and dairy, helping food stay fresh for up to five times longer. Reducing avoidable food waste also reduces the resources associated

The sustainability

conversation IER recently caught up with Louise Marshall, National Sales Manager at Liebherr UK regarding Liebherr’s approach to making space for more sustainable refrigeration

with producing, processing and transporting it. The sustainability case also extends beyond

day-to-day appliance performance. Consumers are increasingly conscious of energy use and environmental impact and expect the products they bring into their homes to reflect those priorities. Liebherr considers the full product lifecycle, from the use of natural refrigerants such as R290 and R600a, which have ultra-low global warming potential, to appliances designed for durability, repairability and easy disassembly. DuoCooling, with two independent cooling circuits, helps minimise temperature fluctuations and reduce energy consumption, supporting efficient operation in everyday use. For retailers, the strongest sustainability story is practical and relevant to everyday life. Clear in- store messaging can connect energy ratings, capacity, food preservation and long-term value, while helping

customers understand the technology behind the appliance. Liebherr also offers a 10-year guarantee on select models, demonstrating confidence in product longevity and providing reassurance at the point of sale. For consumers, it signals that their purchase is built to deliver lasting value. For independent retailers, it reinforces quality, trust and a considered investment.
