electronica 2018 INTRODUCTION & CONTENTS The world of electronics come together for electronica I
n November 2018, the electronics industry reunites in Munich for the biggest electronica yet. November 13th-16th will see more than 3000 exhibitors and over 70,000 visitors walk through the doors of Messe Munich Trade Fair Centre for more than just an exhibition. There are special areas of interest spread throughout 17 exhibition halls and, to help visitors navigate their way around, every exhibition hall is devoted to a specific product sector.
The main topics covered at this year’s show includes automotive, embedded solutions, medical electronics, wireless, industrial IoT, cyber security, AI and wearables. A comprehensive programme of conferences and forums will explore these key industry topics in greater depth. The electronica conference programme focuses on the challenges of
electronics and its applications. In addition to the established conferences – the electronica Automotive Conference (eAC), the electronica Embedded Platforms Conference (eEPC) and the Wireless Congress – experts will also present the latest developments in medical electronics technology at the electronica Medical Electronics Conference (eMEC). This year’s electronica 2018 forum programme provides visitors with the opportunity to gather the latest information on many hot topics including Industrial IoT, PCB and components, cyber security, connectors, medical electronics and eHealth and LED/solid state lighting.

Effective measures to defeat warpage problem for PCBs 9
Nowadays, electronic products call for miniaturisation and high accuracy so that component miniaturisation has become an essential development trend. When miniaturised components are ready to be assembled on large-area PCBs, much higher requirement has to be laid to board smoothness. Naturally, it has become an essential topic for PCB manufacturers to consider how to reduce warpage extent of PCBs

Printed by The Manson Group, St Albans 11 For the first time, the successful SEMICON Europa will be held alongside
electronica. SEMICON Europa focuses on the electronics manufacturing supply chain with an emphasis on semiconductor production. It is known as an advanced and innovative electronics manufacturing platform and will feature more than 400 exhibitors in the fields of semiconductor production and printed organic electronics. This year, a new theme ‘The electronica experience’ has been introduced. It is aimed at students of all ages and is held in Hall C6. The idea is to give tomorrow’s designers and engineers an insight into the world of electronics. This will take the form of live demonstrations, applications examples, presentations from exhibitors and what the organisers describe as a recruitment fair. In this year’s CIE electronica supplement, we look at some of the exhibitors and the show and the products and services they will have on offer. We also have an exclusive preview from the organisers of electronica and a floorplan of the show to demonstrate the structure and layout. Welcome to electronica 2018, where you can step into the future of
electronics.
