Advertorials METCASE launches new 19” rack enclosures
METCASE supplies new 19” TECHNOMET enclosures fully assembled, ready to use
METCASE has created a new 19” mini-rack version of its advanced TECHNOMET table-top instrument enclosures.
The new TECHNOMET cases are designed for mounting standard 19” subracks, chassis and front panels. Applications will include test and measurement equipment, networking and communications devices, sound and studio systems, laboratory instruments, industrial computers and control systems.
These elegant and ultra-modern enclosures combine diecast aluminium front and rear bezels, a folded case body and chassis and four snap-on cover trims to create a flush-fitting cohesive design with no visible fixing screws.
Standard 19” panel mounts with caged nut apertures for fixing the equipment are included in the front and rear bezels. There
are three standard case sizes: 3U, 4U and 6U, all with a depth of 400 mm. Custom depths can be supplied on request.
The rear and base panels are ventilated to aid cooling. Inside there are two subrack/chassis support rails. All case panels are fitted with M4 threaded pillars for earth connections. ABS side handles are recessed for easy portability. Moulded ABS non-slip feet are also included. Prices start at £170.
Accessories include 1U to 6U (unvented and vented) 19” front panels and M6 caged nuts and fixing screws.
METCASE can supply TECHNOMET 19” enclosures fully customised. Services include: custom front panels; CNC punching, folding, milling, drilling and tapping; fixings and inserts; painting and finishing; digital printing of legends and logos.

HBM expands its range of strain gauges with new
KFU series for high temperatures Through its collaboration with the Japanese manufacturer Kyowa Electronic Instruments, HBM a market leader in the field of test and measurement is pleased to announce the arrival of its new KFU series of strain gauges for high temperatures of up to 350ºC.
Suitable for structural tests at exceptionally high temperatures, the latest series of KFU strain gauges are pre-wired and come equipped with a 1 meter long, high temperature protection cable.
Available in grid lengths of 2 mm and 5 mm as well as in different versions, such as linear, T (with two measuring grids) or R (with three measuring grids) rosettes, depending on the application’s requirements, the KFU strain gauges are also
Ultimate bench power supply New PWR-01 power supplies
available with temperature responses matched to steel, austenitic steel, and aluminium.
The latest series of strain gauges can be used at high temperatures for specified durations; at 350ºC for 72 hours or at 300ºC for 360 hours. Typical applications include strain measurements in autoclaves or environments with steam.
The KFU strain gauge series are the first products manufactured by HBM in collaboration with the Japanese manufacturer Kyowa Electronic Instruments. This cooperation of two technology leaders enabled HBM to complement its range of products with additional, fascinating sensors, such as those for very high temperatures, and offer these to clients in future.

switching to robots ABB Robotics seminar and workshop for UK SMEs explains how investing in robots can help transform performance
ABB will be demonstrating how robots can help UK SME manufacturing companies to become more productive and competitive at its forthcoming Switch to Robots seminar. Taking place at ABB’s Milton Keynes site on Wednesday 17th October 2018, the event will provide a simple step-by-step guide to introducing robot automation to the factory floor.
The seminar discusses the key issues
around specifying, installing and operating a robot, including how to assess which processes can be automated and how to develop the right solution for your needs.
“UK manufacturers are struggling to keep pace with other leading nations that are able to quickly produce high-quality goods at low costs. For UK SMEs to remain competitive they must embrace digital technologies to increase their productivity,” says Mike Wilson, General Industry Sales Manager for ABB Robotics, UK and Ireland.

Telonic Instruments announce the UK release of the new Kikusui PWR-01 series of wide-range benchtop programmable DC power supplies.
The PWR-01 series are versatile instruments with models offering 400W, 800W, and 1200W rated power output with maximum rated voltages up to 650V. Equipped with a 4-times voltage and current variable ratio, making this one of the most versatile range of DC power supplies on the market today, the PWR-01 provides flexible current and voltage for a variety of applications.
Variable internal impedance is a unique new feature that allows for various types of simulations suitable for automotive test and other battery-driven applications as well as solar-panel evaluation.
The PWR-01 is also equipped with a soft-start function that limits the inrush current, minimizing any harmful effects to DUTs such as DC motors. The power supplies are also equipped with ergonomic power setting knobs, allowing the operator to control voltage and current independently, as well as front-facing banana plugs designed for safety and convenience.
The PWR-01 programmable internal-memory feature lets the engineer save custom sequences on the power supply, eliminating the need to access a PC every time a test is conducted.
Synchronized operation allows for more complex sequences over multiple channels for accurate testing of DC/DC converters and other products.
LAN (LXI), USB, and RS-232 interfaces are included as a standard; the PWR can be operated in almost any testing environment via SCPI commands, facilitating system integration.
Kikusui power supplies are available for both sale and hire from UK based Telonic Instruments Ltd.

Belden introduces “Time-sensitive Networking
for Dummies” Available free of charge: new Belden/Hirschmann publication addressing Time-sensitive Networking (TSN) and its role in industrial networks in the transition to Industry 4.0, also known as the Smart Factory
Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, has published a special edition of Time-sensitive Networking for Dummies. The book, which was written by Oliver Kleineberg and Axel Schneider, is a Belden/Hirschmann Special Edition. Like last year’s highly successful Belden/Tripwire Industrial Cyber Security for Dummies, it can be downloaded free of charge in .pdf format – and is also available in a regular print edition.
In today’s highly automated systems, real-time communication is essential. Several real-time communication technologies, including EtherCAT, PROFINET IRT, and Sercos III, are used to ensure timely communications, but they have compatibility issues and offer limited, if any, support for future enhancements such as increased bandwidth. Time-sensitive networking (TSN) overcomes these limitations to provide dependable real-time communication; high bandwidth to accommodate a vast amount of sensor and background data; and backward compatibility to Ethernet devices.
Time-Sensitive Networking For Dummies, Belden/Hirschmann Special Edition, introduces time-sensitive networking and explains the standards. It provides insight into the requirements of TSN network engineering and the benefits of using non-TSN Ethernet devices on a TSN network.
Introducing the book, co-authors Oliver Kleineberg and Axel Schneider say: “With 53 pages, the book is extremely accessible and serves as a primer by providing a clear, high-level overview. We hope, however, that it will spark readers’ interest and provides the general understanding required to start asking intelligent questions and digging deeper into this fascinating topic.”
