Suitable for use in harsh environments, the rugged IP-Pro Alu EMC enclosure from nVent Schroff is suitable for housing standard or proprietary small form factor electronic PCBs. Available from Foremost Electronics, the enclosure provides protection for sensitive electronics against water, dust and electromagnetic interference (EMI), with applications including railway and transportation, aerospace and defence, industrial IoT, instrumentation and test and measurement. The enclosure is suitable for systems which may have to be located
close to the operation site and need to be protected from shock and vibration, EMI, water and dust. Combined with an optimal heat dissipation concept, the reliable operation of boards, even with high processing power, can be assured. This is very important for applications such as predictive maintenance, where large amounts of data have to be collected, aggregated and analysed, as in signalling and automation applications for railway and IoT applications. The Schroff IP-Pro Alu EMC
is an EMC-shielded aluminium die-cast enclosure available in 15 different sizes from H90 x W122 x D122mm to H180 x W600 x D310mm. This features an aesthetic design and outdoor powder coating in silver grey (RAL 7001) as standard. Depending on size it offers protection up to IP67 according to EN 60529, shock
and vibration resistance according to EN 61373 Cat. 2 and AREMA Class I, IK 09 protection from external mechanical impacts according to IEC 62262, and a working temperature range from –40 to +90˚C. IP-Pro Alu EMC can also be factory modified to suit many
requirements. These include: shock and vibration resistant integration of an eNUC board to withstand shocks up to 30g in accordance with the railway standard EN 61373 Cat. 2; a conduction cooling solution to operate the system with a heat dissipation of 15W, up to an ambient temperature of 50˚C; and IP-protected I/O interfaces for power, RJ 45, HDMI and USB, etc.

An improved version of the MIXO modular pneumatic connection system that uses a new self-extinguishing thermoplastic insert and metal contacts, is now available from Mencom. The MIXO system not only allows more frequent mating cycles for
compressed air distribution systems but also guarantees better mechanical resistance, and increased airflow for transmitting dry and compressed air in pneumatic systems. These metal pneumatic contacts can permanently withstand the
constant pressure of 10 bar. The contacts can be mated up to 10,000 cycles when installed with HNM (High Number of Matings) series enclosures and frames for modular units, and up to 500 cycles when installed with MIXO frames and standard enclosures. The contacts are available in straight and angled versions for different sizes of plastic tubing, 3, 4, and 6mm for both inner and outer diameter.

ENCLOSURES mEET DiN aND iEC STaNDaRDS
All METCASE 19” standard and customised enclosures now conform to the latest DIN 41494, IEC 60297-3 standard for the mechanical structure of electronics equipment. Level 1 of the standard covers
the dimensions of Eurocard modules; Level 2 sets out the width in HP (1 HP = 5.08mm) and height in U (1U = 44.45mm, 1.75”) of 19” rack cases and subracks. These will be mounted in a Level 3 19” rack/cabinet or mini-rack (such as METCASE’s TECHNOMET 19”). The standard also governs front panel dimensions and clearances, the
width of racks required for mounting 19” cases, and the position of mounting apertures. Equipment must be fitted into the racks’ M6 caged nuts using screws and washers (as supplied in METCASE 19” mounting kits). A wide range of 19” rack cases, 19” mini-racks, sloping front and portable
desktop enclosures for modern OEM electronics equipment, are available from the company. Its four 19” rack case models – VERSAMET (1U), UNIMET (2U, 3U), METTEC (1U, 2U, 3U) and COMBIMET (1U-6U) – are available in a range of depths as standard. They can also be specified in custom widths and depths. In addition, COMBIMET is available in custom heights and also as open-top trays for maximum ventilation. A further nine instrument enclosure models, five of which are available
as standard with a tilt/swivel carrying handle that doubles as a desk stand, are also available. The TECHNOMET range, meanwhile, features diecast front and rear bezels fit flush with the case body.
