Never on your own B
udding business owners frequently cite the prospect of loneliness as a deterrent when it comes to launching a new enterprise. And while
personalities that are driven and single- minded are naturally the ones drawn to entrepreneurship, even the most go-it-alone, resilient and laser-focused operator will need other people (if only as customers). Clearly, no man, or woman, is an island – but as a recent study on business burnout* revealed: 46% of owners struggle with feelings of isolation and loneliness. 31% experience burnout due to lack of support from friends and family. 39% feel like they have no one to talk to about their stress.
One way to circumvent these drawbacks, one where you won’t feel
adrift and on your own – is through franchising! Little wonder it's often described as ‘working for yourself, but not by yourself’ when you're part of an established business, with built-in systems and processes and all the support you need to succeed. From the very beginning, you’re
joining a family – there’s support from your franchisor, as well as a network of fellow franchisees to call on when you need help, advice or to just reach out to someone else in the same boat! A huge benefit of running a franchise
is that you’re adopting a system already tried, tested and proven to work – just another way in which others (albeit those who came before you) are collectively contributing to your business success. Joining and running a franchise will
of course require hard work, focus and determination to make a success of your
investment. With a franchise, however, there's a much lower risk of becoming one of the aforementioned statistics – of feeling isolated, unsupported and with no one to turn to. Because with franchising, you’re never really alone. One place you’re certainly not alone
is at The National Franchise Exhibition (NEC, Birmingham, 3 & 4 October) where a whole host of leading brands, as well as talks, advisors, presentations and features will introduce you to the world of franchising and how it can help you gain personal and financial fulfilment. So, get your questions answered, meet interesting and well-informed people – and your future industry colleagues – over this two-day event. Turn now to page 13 for your starting points and to the full show guide (p. 33) for a comprehensive rundown of what to expect! Good luck with your endeavours!
