Home Instead

Find out how ambitious trio Harmeet Sehmi, Amar Shah and Dawud Ahmad are leveraging their healthcare backgrounds to become successful multi-unit Home Instead franchisees

What did you do before franchising and what prompted you to make the change? We started with an established territory in Nottingham in 2021, focusing on building a great team. But we quickly saw the potential to expand and now manage six territories, with two more on the way. It’s grown faster than expected, but always with people and purpose at the core. Our revenues have increased significantly year on year, and we’re proud to run a business with both financial success and social impact.

What training and support is available ongoing? There’s a lot of structured support available from National Office, right from the start. Whether it’s marketing, compliance, HR or strategic planning, the support has been vital, especially as we’ve scaled into multi-unit ownership. It’s given us the headspace to focus on building the right teams and culture.

How has life changed since you launched your franchise? How do you adapt when you take on more units/outlets/territories? Life has become more full-on but more fulfilling. We’ve created a group structure that supports long-term sustainability and gives our teams space to grow. As we take on more territories, we’ll focus on building the right infrastructure and nurturing leadership from within.

What qualities does someone need to be a successful franchisee? What extra qualities might one need to be a multi-unit franchisee? To be a successful franchisee, you need empathy, a genuine passion for making a difference and a drive to provide outstanding care. Being willing to follow a proven model is key. Home Instead’s success rate, award-winning reputation and supportive franchise network give you a solid foundation. For multi-unit success, it’s about a growth mindset.

You need to step back from day-to-day tasks, build a strong leadership team and trust them. Thinking strategically and putting the right structures in place allows you to scale while protecting the quality and values that matter most. Peer support across the network also makes a big difference, it’s a community that really helps you grow with confidence.

What are your plans for the future? We want to keep growing where it makes sense, but it’s never just about scale, it’s about impact. We want to

reach more people while maintaining the human touch that defines our business.

Would you recommend franchising/this franchise opportunity to others? Absolutely. If you care about people and want to run a purpose-driven business with a strong support network, Home Instead is a fantastic opportunity. The model is proven; the values are genuine and support from National Office is consistent. There’s also the opportunity to grow, from running a single office to expanding multi-unit ownership, with guidance and resources to help you scale sustainably. While our backgrounds in healthcare have been valuable, they’re by no means essential. Many successful Home Instead franchise owners come from completely different industries. What matters most is your passion, your leadership, and your commitment to delivering exceptional care.
