FIRST WORD The end of 2025 and start of 2026 have


been a busy time for the AILU team. As well as putting together this issue, we have published the 2026 Directory of Members’ Products and Services. This is the second issue, and we have brought the production in-house as the original publisher went into liquidation last year.


Just a short reminder that the electronic version of this issue is available, in case you wish to save paper and receive the magazine online-only in future. We share the link widely as we seek to get more readers. Currently we are getting over 600 online reads per issue taking our overall readership over 1,000 – not including LinkedIn content, where the articles in particular are getting another 600 reads on average.


In this issue you can read about some of our recent events, including the Early Careers Meeting at UKAEA and the Job Shop Annual Business Meeting at TRUMPF. I have also just been to Southern Manufacturing and the AILU workshop on Optics and Beam Delivery.


We continue to welcome new members – if this is the first issue you have received, welcome! New or existing members, if we haven’t spoken this year, please get in touch with me to find out how you can make more of your membership – especially if you would like to be featured in any of our publications or take advantage of our free and paid promotions.

Authors retain the right to extract, in part or in whole, their material for future use. The Laser User is published quarterly in March, June, September and December by AILU for its members and is available in print or online.
